For the record I'm against cheerleaders in soccer. Not needed. If for some reason the Fire go through with this I hope it is similar to the Chivas Girls at CUSA games. They come out at the beggining of the game and halftime. No cheers or anything, they just walk around for guys to drool over. It is very random...they are pretty hot though...

As far as "Europhile reality," I have no idea what you are talking about. It has nothing about being a Europhile, since many European teams, including teams in Germany and Italy, and more about the complete uselessness of cheerleaders at soccer games. To Pyro, I like your compromise suggestion. Also, for the record, the Fire Front Office stated that no decision had been made on an official "dance team" for the team.
Money is probably so tight right now that they would probably have to be volunteers instead of paid pros. Oh wait, we have those . . . Just look to your friendly north end of the stadium for your cheer leading guidance by your hip happenin' capos. Some of which I might add are pretty easy on the eyes . . . Now if the suggestion for female capos comes to fruition as has been suggested on the S8chicago.com forum . . . there would be no need for said fembots on the pitch.

The Honey Bears were still around in 1985 when the Bears won the Super Bowl, but the next year Virginia McCaskey got rid of them and the Bears have not won the Super Bowl since.
Only because they are owned by the 90yr old lady who finds it distasteful.... Most Bears fans wouldnt mind them back. The Dallas Cowbys Cheerleaders are legendary. Not too mention they are highly involved in the community. I think part of it is when players whine about gueat appearences instead of sending King, Noble, and Lowry they can send King and 2 cheerleaders... I dont see the harm...if they bother you dont look.
Cheerleaders make sense for high school football and basketball games. Dance squad members make sense for football games. But they do not make sense for baseball. At any level. Or track. Would the idea of skimpy dressed ladies bring more folks to the track to attend track and field meets? Maybe. But if that had to be resorted to, that says a lot about lack of attendance and failure to market that sport. I say the Fire should have cheerleaders if the Cubs and/or Sox get them. Or the Red Stars. There is simply no need for them at Fire games. Maybe they work for other teams such as ChivasUSA, but they would serve no purpose or fulfill any need that isn't already filled by S8, save for simply being eye candy for pervs (like me). Having attended a ChivasUSA game, I can tell you that they have little or no actual supporter group influence stadium wide. The PA guy has to tell the crowd when to chant "Chivas!Chivas!Chivas!" If the Fire do feel the need to simply have women out there getting guys like me all revved up ad stuff, then they need to dress them like the Nueva Chicago gals. SHOW THAT ASS. Of course, they won't, because it is a family atmosphere. Stupid idea. No *need*.

A better question would be: how close is the FO to making a decision if there will even be cheerleaders/dance squad/ pep squad/whatever next year? Remember when Bush said "There are no plans on my desk" regarding an invasion of Iraq? He was telling the truth. The decision had been made, but the plans weren't on his desk. They were on Cheney's. Why not? I understand, they don't have this in Europe and everyone on the boards wants to prove that they are some kind of soccer purist. Who cares? This is America and we can have it our way if we like. Just like Burger King. Can't believe so many guys would object to girls dancing around in tight outfits. If it flops, it flops. Nothing lost. in my opinion, as others share, having cheerleaders is tacky.. now if the FO wants to employ some good looking girls for media and public relations, then that would be fine, but as far as being on the pitch trying to get the audience into the game?? we dont need that... god smite them down if they bring out a giant D and a giant FENCE again, if you feel the need to stare at barely legal girls in skimpy outfits go to a strip club... what service would they provide except to get creepy older men constantly harasing them?? our atmosphere is already electric, what would they do to help??

why not make it a community outreach program and have local high school or college dance teams perform?
Just because they have cheerleaders doesn't mean they have to be tacky. Right now we have to to all give big rounds of applause to SPARKEY and huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu-uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu-uummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm-mmooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo THAT is tacky. So lets not pretend that TP is a tacky-free environment. Standing the goal doing cheers would be pointless, but pre-game and half time would be fine, giving out t-shirts and stuff, even helping to organize more chants beyond S8 and w/ S8 wouldn't be a bad idea.
