Just kidding. He's converted me. Great lineup, great substitutions the past two games. I'm not 100% sold, but you can't fire him now.
People, like me, that want him fired have (had) solid reasons why, but after this win he does deserve to take this team to the WC. This doesn't mean he can stink it up all the way through the qualifiers. What should have never happened is that the team had to literally hit rock bottom before their found their whatever it is they needed to get where they are today.
I agree.. I honestly do not feel he is the best for the job, but he just hasn't done poor enough to justify being fired. I also don't think his job was in any real jeopardy after the Italy and Brazil losses, but the last 2 games certainly means he'll be our coach for the WC. A big question for me is, what to do if the US is decent at the WC. If they are great or terrible, the decision is easy, but it will be interesting if they play well without going really far.
If he goes back to the lone striker . . . fire his stupid ass. This team has played with two strikers three times this year and was very dangerous all three games with fluid play throughout each match. Why he didn't go with this formation earlier is a mystery.
true, and while the coach is largely responsible for motivating players and getting the results out of them, but for the first two Conf Cup matches and some of the recent WCQ matches, some of the blame needs to be shared by the players. The players need to put forth the effort regardless of what the coach is saying/doing.
Stupid post. He just led the team to a victory over #1 Spain. Spain who has not lost in 35 games. Spain who won the Euro Cup. Bob deserves credit.
Good lineup, but not subs. Casey???? c'mon. Jr was gassed and was nowhere to be found most of the second half. Adu needed to come in for Jozy so we could have someone hold the ball and draw fouls. Bornstein for Deuce was a good call though.
The coach started with good tactics, keeping the center closed with many men. The Spanish players weren't smart enough to see that they had to play over the flanks, they kept on attacking via the center what they always do. In the second half Del Bosque changed it and let them play over the wings. USA and Bob Bradley had no answer to this, but thanks to a great job of the defense, Spain couldn't get through in the last 45 minutes. The second goal was a bit lucky, a stupid mistake from Ramos, who didn't play his best match. But a goal is a goal. USA won this match on tactics and passion and a bit of luck, but overall especially your defense deserved it today. So thank Bob Bradley, because of this you only had a dangerous spanish side for 45 minutes.
exactly. Fantastic lineup and substitutions, though I still have to question why Conner Casey is there. 8 games and no goals for Dempsey at midfield. 2 games pushed to striker and 2 goals....
And one thing the coach has to say against his players is that they have to dose their powers. Your US Men always start like wild idiots in the first 15 minutes and run out of steam somewhere in the second half...
I agree. I'm never happy with starting a match in a 4-5-1 or 5-4-1. Doing it at the end to protect a lead is one thing, but even if you are the lesser team, so often you can get a lead with 2 strikers and so often you still give up a goal with an extra defender. Also, it keeps working well with Dempsey in midfield until he gets a little tired and then putting him up top. He's been able to score while tired, but not able to defend or generate opportunities while in the midfield when tired. Maybe the same for Donovan. I like those guys starting in midfield, but never be afraid to move them up top when a strategy change is needed.
Yeah...the Confederations Cup, is great and all for the players, but the World Cup is the "true" measure of success. At least we could get seeded now in the World Cup. We didn't dominate group play, got outta of our group with a 1 - 2 W- L record, beat Spain, which I expected, only cuz the Spaniards were ripe for an upset and I still believe in the Iberian Peninsula jinx, no matter if Spain are current Euro Champions. I still think the players are the ones playing there heart out and not doing it for Bob Bradley, but for R-E-S-P-E-C-T for the US National team program. Donovan or Dempsey are probably the players that revolted after the 3 - 0 spanking against Brasil, when there were signs of dissent in the US team.
Get rid of Bradley, he's horrible and his players obviously don't respond to his coaching technique's. Seriously, there are some posters on this board who look like serious retards right about now.
His subs were great the past 2 games. Both times he brought in Feilhaber, it moved Deuce to forward and he scored. And Feilhaber was able to keep possession...just like Adu or Torres would called upon to do, but Bob has been trusting Benny and it has worked. Casey is brought in to kill the game off in the corner, and he did that both games, pretty well. And the Bornstein sub today was also perfect. You are flat out wrong.
I'll agree with you on Felihaber but at what point today did you see Casey do anything. You kill the game with possession not ALL corner work. The other guy is right bring in Freddy or Torres who can at least possess the ball up top and run at defenders. Casey put in no effort but jogged around for 20 miuntes while everyone else was killing themselves. Bornstein was out of necesity because of another bogus red card from the referee.
And that's why he brought in Feilhaber for the possession. And if you didn't notice, Casey played a great 10 minutes or so. Killed the ball in the corner, was onside on that bullshit call that would have had him through on goal alone. Outstanding by him today.
Guys, the OP was being sarcastic. I am definitely not a Bradley believer, and I still want to see the US with a better coach, but whereas I think the string of suckitude that was the US going into Egpyt was a fireable offense, there's no question the team has picked itself up, and Bob has to get some of the credit. Today his team was prepared and they played well. They played hard, got a couple of breaks and held on. He takes the heat when they stink it up, so he gets credit when the perform. Some of his tactics I did not agree with, like continuing to cede the wings even as Spain continued to create chances from them and failing to adjsut his team for short corners, but he did some things very right. For example, although I wanted him to put in Feilhaber (or Adu or Torres, but Feilhaber was a good choice given the previous game) about five minutes earlier, it was the move the game was calling for, and Bob responded. Well done. Also, it was obvious that Clark was working hard, and thinking hard, to avoid risky challenges. I give Bradley some of the credit for this, too. As much as I don't really think Bob brings much to the table, he brought all of it the last couple of games and, obviously, it would be bizarre to fire him now. I don't know about Karma, but that 6 goal swing on Sunday keeps translating into some weirdness that cannot be predicted.
He finally played the defensive lineup that I have wanted to see, and also two forwards. I thought that the Egypt game was his last chance, and he has responded. Whatever happens now, this is his team. I would be comfortable with this starting 11 in 2010. I still want to see him use subs more often, and not Casey, but none of us can complain too much anymore. He put players on the field that were capable and they did their jobs. No Beasley, no Kljestan. The starting lineup for Brazil seems obvious. Put Feilhaber in for Mikey, and leave the rest alone.
