The majority of foreign signings are getting guaranteed deals? I assume we're referring to foreign players in this discussion...
AIUI once the season starts (or shortly thereafter) almost every MLS player's contract becomes guaranteed.
Isn't that only for a certain criteria of players? You had to have played a certain number of seasons by a certain age (or something similar?) This is what I was referring to with my original con comment, and I think(?) it still applies in 2014: http://www.examiner.com/article/denmark-s-rajko-lekic-semi-guaranteed-mls-contracts-too-risky
24 years old with 3 years of service. http://www.mlsplayers.org/files/Press Release (Ratification) - May 4, 2010.pdf
He couldn't even get a game from Rennie at some points. And he gets snubbed for MVP ... Don't blame him for being a little disappointed with his time in Vancouver
Who says he couldn't get a raise? The Caps said that they would discuss a contract with him as soon as they had a coach in place. Robinson says he talked to him right after he was appointed, told him he would look to get him a new contract, and Camilo said he was looking forward to playing under him. A couple days later he is in Mexico with another team's jersey on.
He showed lack of patience. He could have done the option year, repeated his stellar performance and then negotiated DP status for the next year. After all, Kenny Miller is like 102 in soccer years there will be a DP slot open. Also, it's not like he was being paid peanuts. 210K is decent money. Not to mention that he could have been in the Canadian NT for the next cycle which would make him eligible to play in England. He's only 25 it's not like he has to have the big contract now. Finally, Queretaro and Liga MX are not big movers of Latin American talent to Europe. If a Brazilian goes there that's where he stays. Vancouver had better potential for him IMO.
Actually, seriously speaking. How much can Camilo be earning in Queretaro? According to Forbes' mexican edition there are only 22 players in Liga MX earning over a million dollars a year. What would they pay him? 500k? 800k? I just don't get this decision by Camilo.
Well as far as I can tell he is getting zero minutes with Queretaro, so what ever they are paying him (or not paying him) seems like too much. http://us.soccerway.com/teams/mexico/queretaro-fc/1474/squad/
Wait ... you're saying you'd stay put at $200K if you had the opportunity to make $500K somewhere else? And lets not kid ourselves. MFL is still a move up career wise for a player. That will change one day but really we need to start beating them in Champions League before we can make any claims to the contrary. And even then MFL will always have the exposure to Libertadores which with all else being equal will still tip the balance in their favor. Playing in Libertadores gets you noticed in all the other S American leagues, national teams and beyond.
Probably true. However, I was actually thinking he had a higher salary. Also, except for Brazil, S American leagues don't pay that much. The real money is in Europe of course.
Career move or not he is stuck in a team that can't pay him. The government of Queretaro has just handed out emergency pantry items to the players The jpeg file is called gallos_pobres.jpg (impoverished roosters) So while this move may eventually pan out for him in that he will prove himself in a good league this type of situation and Puebla's should give pause to any player going to LMX.
