Reuters reports that FIFPro, the world's players union, has a warning for players who consider plying their trade in either Cyprus, Greece, and Turkey. Read it here (<-click).

Mind you, one of the ways clubs managed to cover player expenses was through match fixing. UEFA, various leagues, and law enforcement agencies have been trying to crack down on it in the past few years, as evidenced by the fact that both Greece and Turkey were rocked by match fixing scandals, among other countries. Therefore, the hardened stance taken against match fixing has undermined the ability of some teams to pay their players. Also, the scandals have served as a public distraction from political turmoil within these respective countries. It gave the media something else to talk about other than gloomy economic reports and political corruption. In addition, the problems associated with paying players has only been compounded by the current world financial crisis, which has hit Greece and Cyprus quite badly. Those three factors are the root causes behind the problems players who play in these countries face.
