If we can get good enough results in the other three matches this month we should beat our best previous ranking (31 - June '97). A lot of AFC countries should rise in rankings after this month.

Japan't loss to Bahrain didn't help their cause. If they had of won that match, they probably still would have been on top.

No ones syaing your the worst but for god sakes.... look at Iraqs current situation.... I suppose Australia has also been invaded by Americans and lost hundreds of thousands of their people and are suffering a crisis?.... I guess if george bush hadn't invaded Iraq the full strength Iraq team would SPANK your Aussie asses.

But it won't happen again. The only other team I could see giving us a spanking would be Japan.

shutup man... you can't generalise it won't happen again... i mean IRAQ has only beaten you like 95% of the time... Australia came to Asia thinking qualifying would be easier now are realizing they may not qualify at all!

You're generalising as well. Why don't we all just get over it?

They've beaten us three times that I can remember and we've beaten them twice so no you plank of wood, that is not 95% of the time.

Australia is a strong team but they need a world class coach.

    Spot on there Mussav.

They need a tactically strong leader who can adapt their play to the conditions such as Hiddinck did in our past WC campaign. HE showed we have the talent but just need direction. We also need someone who will put some "big-heads" on the team in their place.

We have struggled to adapt to certain climates and positions in games since WC 2006.

So why are we top of Asia and still beating top 20 teams?

What I think is wrong is impotent finishing that has come to the fore under Verbeek.

    lol

I guess when hiring Verbeek, Australian FA must have thought it was some bad luck how Koreans averaged like a tenth of a goal per game under Bearbag.

Even though he does lean toward defence first, in all fairness we haven't had available any of our leading 3 goal scorers (Viduka, Cahill and Kennedy) since the Qatar game and our next in line such as MacDonald and Kewell haven't done the job.

If we played with two up front, with someone assisting Scott Mcdonald, we'd have scored more because it has been proven that he is no good at being a lone striker. Thats why we need Viduka the fat bastard.
