2018 won't matter because I'm saying it for the present. Vela said F the NT and all the bs that surrounds it. He doesn't need to go through any of it. Simply the guy doesn't need the National Team. He's more than happy where he is and isn't interested in going anywhere else. He's not a fan of the sport, he's got it good, and he's happy with that. It just sucks for the fans and supporters that a player with his skill and talent won't represent us. But I guess the true problem lies with everything that surrounds the national team and not one player.

Piojo might take 5 if you assume that Gio is considered a forward and attacking mid to him. If Brizuela is considered a midfielder for Piojo, so is Gio. You could see Oribe, Cheech, Jimenez, Pulido and Gio make it and Brizuela dropped for example.
He's for sure counting Gio as a striker.....hes mentioned it many times that hes gonnna be competing with Oribe, Chicharo etc for a spot.
but thats not the case, Giovani is going strictly as a striker as has been previously mentioned in the 1 million+ interviews Herrera has given to the media(tv channels like espnD, foxD, UDN, tv azteca). Hence why piojo has mentioned that the final candidates to play as striker (not attacking mid) are Gio, Chicharito, jimenez, peralta, aldo, pulido. he has mentioned there will be room for only 4 strikers.
