For the same reason as South Africans in 2010. Gov't & FIFA screwed them over...

Corruption. Basically the stadia were to be built with private money and transportation/infrastructure with public money. But they were lazy (as expected) and corrupt (as expected) and sucked all the public funds into the stadiums.

On top of that, they increased bus fares and inflation is rampant. Frustrated protests on how public funds were essentially wasted...

People are getting kicked out of their homes. The Gov't does not want to show the world the Favelas.

Stadiums were not exactly built with public money. The money came by loan of public enterprises. Therefore, the money must be returned by the entrepreneurs responsible for the construction of stadiums.
People are criticizing, but do not know the rules of the use of that money. I do not blame them. I think they are protesting more because they are tired of inefficient governments than the execution of the world cup. If they had invested in schools and hospitals, no one would complain the realization of the wc.
also, it's impossible to kick people out of favelas. There are so many people living there that we don't have any other places to put them now.

btw, i will write a survival guide for those who will be here next year.

A few years ago, when I first heard that the WC was going to be held in Brazil, I was really excited and decided that I had to everything in my powers to get there. However since then, things have changed, and I do not have the monies to go, unless I win the jackpot.

Such a pity that cos both Aus and Korea have made it, and the next 2 WCs are in shoddy locations...........*sadface

well. most koreans (including me) lives in the neighborhood called "Bom Retiro". It's our k-town.
those who have more money lives in "Aclimação" and "Higienópolis". Not far from "Bom Retiro", but the life quality there is better.

Is K-Town in Sau Paulo Bom Retiro quite open, like many Brazilians go there for shopping, eating and hanging out? What about interracial dating with Brazilian girls, is that common?

I think i'm going with my Uruguay friend who lives border to Rio Grande Sul if he can get his finances ready.

Many brazilians go there because they watch k-drama and listen to k-pop.

I wasn't planning on it at all, but with 2018 and 2022 being in Russia and Qatar respectively, the chances of seeing the Ssang-yongs, Koo, Bokyung, Juyoung, Heungmin, Hongbama, etc., in one location is zero-to-none so I think I'm going to bite the bullet.

A list of BSKers planning on going from my quick overview of this thread:

Yup. I'm still planning on going.
My brother married a Brazillian girl last year and I was there. I now have distant in-laws in Sao Paolo to make this trip a little easier to plan. I'll keep it updated on what I shall find to be the best way to survive, and I mean survive.

The news of HMB got me excited again for WC!

Hopefully in for 2018 for me. I certainly do have the money to go. But for those who can make it, good luck and have safe trip.

Do not go to any of the shady places or you'll get robbed instantly. That's what I heard

Would love to tag along with fellow BSKers. Same boat as you, don't really want to go to Russia and Qatar in 2018/2022. Plus I scheduled everything so 2014 would be the summer I could experience this once in a lifetime moment.

I would have been furious/livid/murderous if KNT hadn't qualified since I skipped a trip to Europe/Iceland to save up for next year.
