I wouldn't have posted this if I didn't believe I played on the level long enough. What more can you do on a fast break than place the ball low and away. The rest is up to the computer to let it go in once in a while. I've been at it for probably 3 weeks now and I can't score more than 1 goal with Bayern Munich per game. It's just getting pretty old and I just want to score a damn goal. :)

Well since you describe a specific method of scoring try something else. Play patient and VERY rarely use the turbo. make quick passes back and forth while NOT using turbo EVER close to the box and eventually a guy will get it. Sparingly use the through pass, and only out wide. Play smart by passing a LOT right at the top of the box to create a hole to send a pass into that will eventually make it in the back of the net.

If you are attempting crosses try to chip a through ball in instead of lobbing. you can get it in over the goalkeeper's head and then slam it in with a header or a volley.

The key is to make short passes along the ground (including backpasses to bring defenders into the attack) which stretches the defense and creates patches of space to send players into. Just like the real game.

i feel you. i have been playing on semi-pro since I got it, so for almost a month now. I have been getting good enough where I can win 5-0, 6-0 vs. really bad teams, and still have competive matchs vs. the elite teams.

I figured out that the way to win was short passes and possesion, and i have been working on increasing those stats. In the begining the computer would own me in possesion, like 60% to 40% and have nearly twice as many short passes as me, as well as a much better passing success percentage. I have been working on these skills and slowly getting better, so now i am on par or above the computer at all of them.

Today I decided to step my game up to Pro, and so far its been a trainwreck. I am trying to play the right way, but my only goals have been off a free kick, an outside shot, and a corner kick. I have lost 5-2 to a bad team, and lost 2-0, and drew 1-1. its been really frusturating.

Now i am trying to decide if i should stay on this level, becuase I know it will help me get better in the long run, or if i should go back to semi-pro for a little more practice. i don't know what to do.

Soccer Obsession, don't worry I know how you feel, my advice is just stick it out. When I first made the jump from semi-pro to pro I was getting whooped all over the place and drawing/losing 4-5 games straight. But now I feel I've "graduated" from Pro, I'm currently sitting 2nd on the table with Inter, with 7 wins, 4 draws and only 1 loss, and I'm beating some of the lesser teams by 3-4 goals now.

Also I agree quiters annoy the **** out of me!! I was playing as Inter against Chelsea and the other guy scored in the first 10 minutes and all of a sudden he was getting all cocky, trying to do all sorts of tricks, then I equalized just before half time and the 2nd half was really tight for awhile with both sides having chances but I completely blew him apart in the last 20 and scored 3 goals in quick succession and was very close to a 4th when.... the dumbass quits.

I must be the idiot on this one, because I have never done it...not sure where I am "aiming" and the shots seem to always go over goal..even with not keeping the button pressed for too long...help!

    I need free kick tips!

    LOL

you need to go to practice mode and kick free kicks all day... you will get the hang of it and placement and power will come naturally the more you practice them.. then when you get good at them you will see the variety of things you can do from a free kick.. i still havent scored from a corner (directly) in 08 yet... used to do it in 07 all the time.

Well for PS3 you have to press L1 button while shooting for a "driven"shot. You aim before the shot(its where you are pointing before you shoot). Also put some spin on it as well.I have been practicing with Ronaldinho during the load up screen and it has worked a little bit,try that out.

It's painfully easy to do on the wii. I think it's fairly scripted.

    Hi all,

Anyone interested in setting up a PS3 online league? Or does anyone know of any existing online league?

I feel games'll be more fun (follow up competitive talk here on the forum) and since you know who you're playing, I would hope there wouldn't be any of the disconnects I hear people complaining about.

I'm really interested in a league with people living in North America for better ping/lag, but UK'll be good too!

yeah, i am just sticking it out. I am starting to do better, evenutally I'll be okay- and playing on a higher level will help when I play against my brother.

Like someone before me said, you have to go the practice mode. This way you can try free kicks over and over instead waiting for the 2 or 3 trys you get in a game. Just try practicing kicks from all of the different spots. I did this once, for a couple hours, instead of playing manager mode- I just practiced free kicks for a day, and I was alot better after that. If you are sending too many over the top- you have to push up on the analog stick (which simulates kicking the top of the ball i guess). but just practice it- its like really soccer, thats the best way to improve.

This might have been discussed before, but is it not possible to use custom formation on manager mode? If so, that sucks.

Well, you have to create the formation before starting a new Manager Mode but you can't change it while in Manager Mode. Yeah, it sucks.

Hey I just bought the PC game and I'm having a problem playing it with a controller. I bought a nice controller (logitech chillstream), installed the software it came with and I can calibrate it but when I play the Fifa 2008 I can't get it to let me use my controller. Is there somewhere that I have to change it to controller? I go into Controls>Device, but all it says is keyboard and it won't let me change it.

hmmm, mess with it some more, maybe you're not doing something right. As long as the controller is supported by the game it should let you switch from "keyboard" to "controller" on the "Device" line.

I have a "Logitech Dual Action" controller and it works fine for me.

Thanks. I've messed with it so much now that I'm ready to pull my hair out.

Anyone else have any suggestions? The Fifa 2008 Read Me file does say that the Logitech Chillstream is supported. I have all my latest Windows XP updates. The status of my gamepad
in the Windows Control Panel Game Controller settings says XUSB 'OK' so I don't see a problem there. Gahhhh...I hope someone can help me. I don't want to go to one of the nerd sights and have some braniac speak to me in computer code.
