    Feeling Lucky, Rush?

Rush Limbaugh taking on Dirty Harry?

    http://www.nytimes.com/2005/02/13/arts/13rich.html?8hpib

Clint Eastwood - both a nazi, commie, and a liberal. Quite a complex guy.

Mr. Limbaugh charged that the film was a subversively encoded endorsement of ****** (I'm not getting a yellow for not using an R),I didn't see the movie, so can you spell out the bleepity-bleep please?

Now that all these right wing extremist hate mongers have unleashed their vitriol against "Million Dollar Baby", I now want to see it. Previously, I was indifferent and probably would not have seen it. So this is an example of right-wing vitriol back-firing.

By the way, in a "G" rated description, could you state what the blanked out (with asterisks) thing was? I don't want to subscribe to NY Times, and I can most certainly guess, but I want to know for sure what these right-wing wackos are so worked up about.

Maybe he simply snapped when he saw the word beginning with "Clint'. He misses Bill and Hillary too much.

Oh please. If this movie hadn't done as well at the box office as it has, they wouldn't have said a word about it. They're just using this as a self-promotion vehicle.

Remember all the furor over "Dogma"?

    Re: Feeling Lucky, Rush?

Ah, I posted while you had posted your "youth in Asia" post, so did not see it originally.

    That's it?

I'm assuming that the movie has someone that is terminally ill and is suffering and/or is a mental vegatable, so has life support disconnected.

Yeah, I can see how someone like Rush Limbuagh and Michael Medved might have a problem with it. We wouldn't want to end the suffering of innocents, now would we?

Limbaugh and Medved are wacko-jackasses. But then, everyone knew that.

I saw the movie, and had already read the short story upon which the movie was based. Excellent flick. And yes, I guess it does say something about euthanasia. But it's not like the story provided some sort of political message. The story was part of a book called "Rope Burns," which was a collection of boxing-related stories written by a former cutman.

I thought it was Clint that stood up at some awards show and said that if Michael Moore came to his house with a camera he would kill him?

    Por Dios!

    Re: Feeling Lucky, Rush?

I don't actually agree with the film's point of view, either, but that doesn't mean I can't appreciate it for what it is. (In my opinion, a masterpiece.)

I'm sure there are liberals somewhere who also issue jeremiads against art and entertainment on political grounds, and it would be just as irritating coming from them as it is coming from Medved and the drug addict.

This stuff is so **********ing stupid it is beyond belief. I'm just waiting for someone to condemn the Bible because the story of David promotes adultery and murder.

And beyond that, it's not like the film celebrates euthanasia or something. Clint doesn't want to do it, and it is hardly a happy ending.

    why was euthanasia asterisked?

Is the movie actually any good? Heard good reviews of it, but I'm skeptical of a female boxing film....

Isn't there a Spanish movie about euthanasia that's in theatres now as well? I think it was nominated for oscars...

It's an amazing movie. Simple but done really well.

And do you really expect Clint Eastwood to make a girl-power movie or something?

Well that is a good idea for anybody left or right seeing that it could only mean trouble. He was probably refering to what he did to Heston.

Girlfight is another excellent movie about female boxing.

In the Monterey/Santa Cruz/San Francisco area, Clint is pretty much royalty. His work in movies, government and charity transcends the political. If anything, he is from the libertarian wing of the Republican party, but I know alfalfa munching hippies as well as gun-freaks that totally dig Clint.

I just wonder why the Bushies are so pissed at him. I'm looking forward to a Bushie apologist to chime in, any time now....

    Re: Feeling Lucky, Rush?

because I think the (R) rule is sometimes quite silly, so decided to apply it in one of the silliest but still legit reasons (see comment about possible yellow card)

but also so any people who might care could avoid the spoiler, but still see how stupid rightwinger outrage jockeys are when they start running out of targets.

Too late now. Those stupid asian youths ruined it all.

    Re: Feeling Lucky, Rush?

I saw the movie before this whole right-wing thing began, but if I hadn't and I read a story about how there's a backlash against its seemingly pro-euthanasia story, I'd be mighty pissed. This plot twist doesn't come until something like the 90-minute mark, and if you know that someone is going to be euthanized, it's not too hard to figure out who it is and who's going to do it. That's why I edited the title of the thread.

Didn't Michael Medved appear in some 70s gay porn?
