What do you reckon? the only two sensible names mentioned have been FC Wellington and Wellington Athletic.
I heard it was going to be wellington wasps. But Wellington Athletic does sound pretty good. But aslong as the name isnt so embarrisingly bad that no self respecting new zealander would want to support them I could care less.
Yeh i don't mind FC, who cares if sydney has it, so do thousands of other clubs. Yellow and Black would be good, would really fit in with the seats of Stadium and i guess if they don't want to be like the other NZ franchises they have to get away from black and white/grey
Aotearoa Athletic Aotearoa AC AC Aotearoa Aotearoa FC FC Aotearoa Wellington Aotearoa If you must have Wasps as part of the identity package, let it be a nickname that accompanies one of the above franchise names. In other words, the club name is officially Aotearoa Athletic and the club's mascot/nickname is Wasps.
New Zealand's A League soccer franchise is to be known as Wellington Phoenix FC. Owner Terry Serepisos unveiled the name on Wednesday night. link
Wellington Phoenix FC, huh? Not bad... not bad at all. Given the demise of the Knights, followed by the "rebirth" of A-League soccer in New Zealand via Mr. Serepisos' efforts, the symbolism inherent in the Phoenix name is evident. It lends itself to dynamic imagery, given the immortal bird's mythological roots. Yellow and Black are solid choices as primary colors, though I might suggest adding just a bit of Red and Orange to the mix as accent colors, in order to play up the fiery angle of the phoenix legend.
