Just felt like making a thread about FC Barcelona Basketball (Regal FC Barcelona as their officially called) in light of their qualification to the Final Four of the 2008/2009 Euroleague. They play their semi-final vs. CSKA Moscow on May 1st, with the final being on May 3. The other semi-finalists are Olympiacos Piraeus (knocked out Real Madrid in the Q-finals) and Panathinaikos Athens. The Final Four is taking place at 02 World in Berlin, Germany. :)

Well done Hendrix! I also have a season ticket for the basketball team this year. We have a great team, but the Russsians are very strong. I think if we beat them we'll be favourites in the final.

Sorry Dr. Know, but i just read your question... like four or five months late!

Santiago was OK, but he's no longer in the team. He wasn't espectacular but he did his job. We'll miss Andersen and Ilyasova much more...

lanu, let us know how ricky rubio does. I might try to catch a game in March (if the gf will let me, she's already on the hook for possibly two barcelona football matches, dunno if she'll be ok with a basketball game on top of it! :p)

This years team is sick. Probably the best basketball team outside of the US.

I wouldn't mind seeing that Rubio-Navarro backcourt in the NBA either.

Barça's basket team is awesome this season. I would say they're like the fotoball team last year, sort of.

    Hi jfcule, thanks!

Well, yes, I haven't been around much lately, that's true. I have a love/hate relationship with internet forums, but I take a look from time to time.

Madrid dispatched! Next up: CSKA Moscow in the semifinal. Imagine if it had been in both sports!

Yes, that would have been great. The CSKA basketball team is much more tough to beat than the football one though...

Regal Barca is in the Euroleague final. They will play either Parizan or Olympiacos on Sunday.

And it will be against Olympiacos of Athens, the team that made headlines when it signed Josh Childress away from Atlanta (obviously before the Greek financial scandal, but the Euro remains stronger than the dollar, plus players are paid after-tax money and usually have a house, cook, driver, car, tix home, etc. provided). Josh is far from their only good player but we should still win. First Sevilla, then Athens in Paris and we'll have a trophy in each sport.

64 - 50 to the Blaugrana after three. Joan Laporta pacing the sidelines looking like a slimmer Rudy Tomjanovich.

    It wasn't even close.

    Regal FCB, Champions of Europe!!!

Xavi, Puyol, Bojan, all celebrating with Laporta on the sideline.

JC Navarro is MOTM. (edit: make that Final Four MVP)
