I thought it might be kind of fun to see what players (non RSL) are liked, and what players are loathed. So give us your top 3 and bottom 3. Here are mine: Like: • Michael Bradley (I know he just came back, but I've been a fan of his forever.) I'd love to see him in an RSL kit. • Darlington Nagbe. Kid's fun to watch, loads of promise with him. •Thierry Henry. This one might be a little cliche, but I've always liked him, and I like the praise he gives RSL. And the league. Hate: • Steven Lenhart. What a %#+& face • Aurelian Collin. Something about him just rubs me the wrong way. • Ozzie Alonso. Maybe it's because of the pedestal Seattle fans put him on, but I can't stand the guy.
Lenhart, Collin, Feilhaber (sp?) because he is literally always crying about something. Pa Modou Kah, that guy is a thug. Im surprised every game that he doesnt get a red card. I used to hate Mike Magee. but he hasnt bothered me as much since he moved to Chicago.
My top 3 non RSL (and I think it's key to include they haven't played for RSL in their career as well). Like: Jay Demerit - works hard, plays clean, is a pretty cool dude off the pitch Theirry Henry - absolute legend that didn't come to retire. gotta respect that Matt Besler - I wanted to say Nagbe but wanted to bring in a different name. Like Demerit he plays hard and clean. The guy is a workhorse at CB. Loathe (going outside the obvious): Marcelo Sarvas - hack of hacks. He looks like a latino version of Jeffrey Donovan to me and it irritates the hell out of me. Drew Moor - I think the crest on his shirt influences this one a lot - but I've never been a fan of the guy. Eddie Johnson - despite his claims, he is not a GAM
Like: - Diego Valeri - Will Johnson (can I pick an ex-RSL player?) - Dan Kennedy: For my money, the second-best keeper in MLS (although Penedo looked good last weekend) - If I can't pick an ex-RSL player, I'd say Higuain. I'm a sucker for playmakers. Dislike: - Lenhart - Gordon: probably because he stands too close to Lenhart - Kah - Pretty much anyone who is large, clumsy, and dangerous. Attiba might fit in this category as well.
Can't we just say that SJE collectively is one player? That way we can dislike all of them at once and still have two somewhat unique answers.
Good Guys: Will Johnson - its sort of cheating, but honestly I like what he has done at Portland as much as I like what he did at RSL. Especially some of the little things like last year when he walked off 10 yards and got a yellow or when he turned around and applauded Camillo after the goal of the year. Kelyn Rowe - I like the young talent in the is league and hope that some of that talent can take off. New England has a lot of young talent right now and it would be great if they can put it all together and make the league look good developing them. Federico Higuain - He has been so fun to watch, and I think he will have a breakout year this year. Bad Guys: Lenhart/Gordon - Yeah. Collin - I can get over the physical game, that is part of being competitive and hard working. What I can't get over is the little fits he throws every time he has a foul called against him or loses a physical challenge and tries to get a foul called for him. EJ - His game is decent. I don't like all the off the field antics, and elbowing a guy in the face a couple days ago was not cool.
Would agree about pretty much everyone above. Can I throw another couple of names out on the hate list? Minda from Chivas, Conor Casey, and Kenny Cooper.
Can we include a former player who somehow weaseled his way into a coaching position after the cRapids apparently gave up on finding someone better?
A few more hates. Mondaini (I know he isn't even in the league anymore, but still, #%&@ him!) Brian Mullan Oh and Kyle Beckerman
What do you guys have against Beckerman? He never makes a mistake, should've taken the Balon D'or over Ronaldo, and will likely take his place along side the holy trinity after he retires. (Don't worry Phils I already got this one covered for ya)
Hey mods, can we get a cleanup over here? It's pretty obvious that Phils has hacked @Liv34s0ccer 's account.
Liked: Fagundez - super creative, positive player; when the ball is on his foot there is potential for magic Arnoud - always wished to see him in an RSL shirt; reminiscent of KB5 except more offensive-minded Loathed: Carlos Ruiz - I know he isn't in the league anymore, but I really hate(d) him Lenhart (echo) Moor (echo) Collen (echo)
Like: 1. Will Johnson 2. Khari Stephenson 3. Jurgen Klinsmann 4. Ztalan 5. Luca Toni Hate: 1. Anyone playing in a SJ, KC, Galaxy or Rapids jersey 2. The rest of the league. 3. Lionel Messi 4. Anyone playing for Brazil or Mexico 5. Pele
Fairly recent development, but I hate Dempsey. He and EJ should be best friends, oh wait they are. Fitting. Both of them are a lot more flash than substance (there is substance there, but still overshadowed by the flash) and the second things don't go their way they turn into whiny ass children. Can't stand it. Hope not to see either of them in Brazil (that's only sorta true in Dempsey's case). Today's D-bagery
That's not too bad. I know several forwards that will pull that move in an attempt to bait the defender into fouling them. Definitely not classy, but I've seen worse d-baggery. My favorite was Dempsey's attempt at a no-look back pass today, which went straight to Defoe, which he calmly slotted in for his second goal of the day. Dempsey tries to be cute way to often when playing the basics would be much more effective. It drives me insane when he does this in the national kit.
RSL retweeted this poll(scroll down) on the most hated person in MLS. They are taking it down early because of a clear winner (not a joke)
Pretty amazing to see 6 RSL players in their USA Top 100 Players Index (Beckerman, Rimando, Gil, Beltran, Borchers, Schuler).
Lizzie, why do you do this to me? You know I can't just leave something like this alone.... 3 teams are tied with 6 players in the top 100: - RSL - DC (Eddie Johnson, Pontius, Hamid, DeLeon, Kitchen and Franklin) - Chicago (Magee, Sean Johnson, Larentowicz, Rolfe, Austin Berry, and Benji Joya (on loan from Santos in Liga MX)) Of those 3 teams, however, RSL's players are easily the most highly-ranked on average. Here are the rest of MLS teams and how many players they have in the Top 100: - 5 players: Houston - 4 players: Philly, San Jose, Kansas City, Seattle - 3 players: Dallas, Colorado, New England, LA - 2 players: Chivas - 1 player: Montreal, Vancouver, New York, Columbus, Toronto - 0 players: Portland
