If you happen to show up during the late summer days, before school starts up again, you will find large numbers of very nubile young women at this beach.

I'm far too old now to participate in the rituals, but it's a great place for body surfing and if you haven't had tortilla strips with "sauce", you haven't had great beach food.

Wow, I envy you. Is Kaiser's Kafe still open? It's an outdoor venue up on the cliffs...

Apparently so although we rarely left the place we stayed. We hooked up a villa damn near in the middle of 7 mile almost across the street from "Best of the West" jerk stand. Going this late in the season we missed out on a lot of the birds but the trade off was considerably less tourists. We stayed at a place called "Nirvana" and it was an awesome experience. The wife and I will definitely be back year after year.

Make sure you go to Rick's Cafe for some sunset drinks and to Kaisers for some hot late night reggae.

    An insignificant beach of Rio.

    São Conrado.

Right in the center of a city of 13 000 000 inabitants.

    Hard to surf there.

You don't have to go to Mauritius or the Caribbean.

    Right around the corner.

    Chimes.

(Wasn't being able to paste the ImgShack code on the window - now it worked) :D ...

This is São Conrado Beach in Rio de Janeiro City (Maracanã Stadium is located
right behind those last upper & darker green hill lines to the right of the picture).

As I said, most Brazilian coastal cities have top world beaches all-year-round right around
the corner: you don't have to travel 1000-2000-5000 miles to get a nice tan
in a longinquous Pacific Island (even in winter - when the Cup will be disputed).

You can go directy from the beach to the game - and then commemorate :) ...
