As a counter to the "buffest player" thread I saw in this forum...who do you think the fattest player of all time is? Here's my vote: Welsh keeper Neville Southall
I think there could be a run off vote between Neville Southhall and big Jan "the Man" Molby. I can't find any picture on google to do it justice, but I'm sure someone has one somewhere...
I remember a report of Foxsports about a 120kg goal keeper at Brazilian thrid division. The man did some awesome plays!
Absolutely! I was about to post the same thing because I just remembered him from Liverpool circa 1992. I can remember John Motson exclaiming during a match something along the lines that Jan Molby "was in his own little world in the center circle". Funny! Someone will eventually find a picture...
Willie 'Fatty' Foulkes Played for Chelsea. 6'3" and over 22 stones (that's 300+lbs for the US'ers here and 136+kg for the continental types).
How about Tony "Now That's a Biga Meatball" Meola? He never met a doughnut he didn't like-especially when they're flying in from the north end of RFK.
I've seen pictures of that guy. A true leviathan. He looked like he could've eaten Neville Southall. Can't get a decent picture to post off google, though.
Yeah, I've been trying too. There's a great photo of him (with the rest of the team - y'know, a squad type photo) in the entrance of the National Football Museum in Preston (or at least there was a couple of years ago). It takes up a whole wall. It must have been the specifically designed 'pie diet' that nowadays gets unfairly ignored. Although Matt LeTissier seemed to give it a go towards the end.
What about Ferenc Puskas? He's way before young Badsy here's time, but the old man has told me some stories of a fat hungarian who played for Real Madrid..
http://www.chelsea-mad.co.uk/news/loadfeat.asp?cid=EDW2&id=57816 Fatty Foulkes - Maybe acrobatics weren't his thing?
Willie "Fatty" Foulkes photo at the site below. http://www.chelsea-mad.co.uk/news/loadfeat.asp?cid=EDW2&id=57816 I bet that he had a good GAA. Dude took up from post to post.
Aah yes, there here is (thanks researchers). Was looking for the squad photo but this is good. Wonder if the defence argued with him if he went off on a Schmeichel-esque rant?
Wow, from the articles on Foulkes: Stamford Bridge was the first ground to employ ball boys – these were mainly employed in order to help out Willie. --------- Ballboys are invented because of him and he retires as a circus sideshow act. Talk about a career for the ages! Puskas:
Well the obvious two Foulkes and Puskas have been mentioned. I believe when England played Hungary in 1953 and were beaten 6-3 Stan Mortenson said to Stan Matthews "We'll have no trouble here, look at the little fat one" in reference to Puskas.
neville southall is a damn legend, and also one of the best keepers of his time, even if he is a fat bastard
"Yes it IS a diet coke!" :::sits down and chuckles to himself::: "its really a glass of fat, and im a fat twat"
