    The scale of the achievement is all the more reason not to embellish it.

    Given that Ronaldo has scored 87 league goals at United and Sporting, why would we expect him to be in the 400 goal region?

    Is Spain three times as easy as those leagues?

    He's only played 314 league games. Even if he had matched his Real Madrid ratio at the start of his career he would "only" be on 350. As lanman points out, he wasn't that type of player then.

    Why then overstate what is already a phenomenal achievement?

    Outstanding acheivement, from a world class player at the top of his game. I'm happy for him and he's clearly loving it in Madrid. It's difficult to gauge how good he is. Statistically he's better than almost every other foeward I can thik of. Even h the likes of Ronaldo, Henry, Eto'o and Villa didn't socre goals like he's doing at the moment.

    IMO his game is more direct recently, almost textbook at times. Like a classic forward/winger. He takes shot after shot (6.7 per game, leading all players in Spain/Italy/England/Germany according to http://www.whoscored.com/Statistics). Of course, shooting a lot does not guarantee scoring a lot, but it doesn't hurt (especially when you have other tricks in the bag and the team has many other options), and if you don't take shots, you don't score.
