Right (44 was like a magic number as BEST record at all time) Many later on wrote that Ben hit 44.41km/hr (?) as slower than Bolt 44.74km/hr . HOWEVER NOT TRUELY CORRECT. There are two things not many know since most of his "records" were RETRIEVED by IFA 1- Ben’s 3.67 30m in Seoul is still faster than Usain Bolt’s 3.78 in Berlin. 2-Record-breaking In Seoul, on that bright September afternoon in 1988, when the gun went off, Johnson exploded down the track. Of course he took drugs, he says. You couldn't compete if you didn't take drugs Forty-six strides, a top speed of nearly 50km/h, 100m in 9.79 seconds. He had destroyed his rival Carl Lewis and had run faster than any man in history. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/programmes/from_our_own_correspondent/1449381.stm
It's a fundamental basic to know before you naive people can discuss something more complex OK? For example, some naive person does know that player A barely made his top speed (w/o the ball) at 10Km/hr, but then quickly claim "wow Player A is the fastest dribbler" LOL Oh I think you got intimidated for your Messi in such context? C'mon don;t be so negative ...
Apparently it is normal to call others "dunderheads". Seems to me a pretty interesting observation that the top speed of 100m sprinters is only 9 km/h faster as the quickest dribblers in football, who have to last more than 100 metres obviously and aren't built for straight line speed. And have higher intensity throughout the season.
First they are all top notch athletes and "FOOT"ball does remind the importance of the FOOT SPEED Secondly, it's unfair for those sprinters ... since most footballers were measured (topspeed) in a much shorter distance (<30m) and in their BEST FORM (instantly) while the top sprinters have a much more consistent (average over 100m) top speed in a longer distance. Here are some notification of the so called SPEED ENDURANCE of the top sprinters. NOTES: 0-10m: Ben Johnson (and Mo) was winner with 1.83 30-40m: Ben Johnson was still winner (with Asafa catching up) at 0.86 0-50m: Ben Johnson was CLEAR winner (average 0.83 or 0.84) 50-80: Ulsain Bolt became unrival for he could maintain his long strides at 0.82 (amazing)
Zidane better ball control than Ronaldo? very subjective but for me no, Zidane was only more elegant. Zidane can't do this. Who can? About static position: Some skills in this video are impossible for other players. --------------------------------------------------------------------- "the car that runs faster, must be more difficult to control" Yes he is more difficult to control, any people who has studied the Newton's laws of motion know this. Messi has a great ball control just because it has the best physical structure, is not the most skillfull player in wolrd: -low center of gravity_____>more grip, more balance, closest to the ball (so logically have more control) -great frequency of legs____>many touches at hight speed, so more control of the ball. -physical structure disproportionate, upper body little muscular, on the contrary hypertrophy legs___>so more agility, more quickly, more acceleration. Messi is not more skillfull than Ibrahimovic, Van Persie, Cr7 and some others players. For me Messi is more a physical dribbler(agility, acceleration, low center of gravity), than a skillfull dribbler.

Let's look at the YOUNG Ronaldo (21) at WC98, dancing dribble vs 4,5 Chilean and scored to against most saying he ONLY kicked the ball yards ahead ! For a fast player, of course they will kick the ball further up (WHEN NO ONE there) for their speed can catch up with the ball in few pace. You do NOT want the ball to SLOW your speed down when no one in front OK? Watch similar xcase with fast players like Maradona, Cruijff, CR7 Henry ... when they have more space in front ... People THINK they watched the gaes, but sometimes they do NOT understand the games playing. R9 at Inter playing COUNTER ATTACK, with R9 as a freebie FW in role, so that why some cases you see he started the run from MF and KICK the ball yards ahead of ONE DF as last wall before reaching GK ... Messi is also a super fast player, but OFTEN his team Barca playing SLOW possession to move the ball up, that's why you do NOT see Messi in a case of running by himself with much space a head ...
I think it's just the Argentinian football school. Argentinians usually like to play with the ball next to their feet. Messi is indeed fast, but kicking the ball further and running behind it is not in his "mindset". On topic, a player that I think had a lightining fast dribbling is this one right here in my avatar, next to Romario:
Not really, I would say MOST SA players love Dribbling and likes to keep the ball between his legs. (not only Argentinian) All I meant was that 1- "tall" players with speed (like Cruijff, Basten, Henry, Ronaldo, Kaka, CR7 ...) could sometime use their speed to beat player (why not?) by kicking the ball further up (GIVEN SPACE) - nothing wrong with that. Now the real question is that Henry close space dribble and CR7 (in close space) were NOT the same as Cruijff and Ronaldo = that COUNTS 2- Messi style (keep ball close) was "caused" by Barca tikitaka (SLOW PACE) and so he can NOT use his SPEED as much (since the team moving up gradually together ) - different scenario with Ronaldo at Inter98 ... as they play COUNTER Attack AND counted on R9 to do goals ...
I see. I think you're right. I just find it odd, as I have rarely seem him do that on the pitch, either for Barça or the Argentina national team.
Quote me for this happen ... I think we''ll have chance to see Messi (as CF) with Argentina in next WC14. Argentina play more faster pace then Barca and they did employ counter attack well (like Maradona + cannigia WC90 vs Brazil, or Maradona +Batistuta at WC94 in counter attck?)
