Truth. I mean, what artist these days can jam with the stamina that he and his band could?

Heard "On The Radio" on the radio this morning. If disco hadn't been so separate/different from everything else that came before, it might have earned her more long-term props as an artist. Some of this stuff is a lot better music than I gave it credit for.

I went to HS with a guy who ended up touring with her on percussion late in her career.

It's true. Same way I never found myself attracted to classic rock from most American bands- the Brits seemed to do that much better, and I haven't really been able to figure out what that's about or why there's any difference (we're talking about the same people, just living an ocean apart). If I had a dollar for every time I looked for info on a 70s or 80s song that I loved and found out that the artist or band was from the UK, I'd have a lot more dollars. And while it isn't true R&B, the 80s Britsoul stuff is very well done.

I was at a movie preview in 1983 at the Peking a schooner anchored in down town manhattan. I was friends with Joe Pesce and he took me with him. In the limo was also Liza Minelli and her weird husband. When we arrived someone introduced me to an old lady. Turns out her name was Gloria Swansan she died the next day.

Ray Bradbury is from Waukegan, Il, very near where I grew up. during freshman year of high school one of my English teachers organized a few of us to join in with RB for something connected with his book 'Dandelion Wine'. There was a march to his childhood home, which was the setting for the story. The neighborhood had changed into a Mexican immigrant community. Unfortunately no one told the current residents the 200 Anglo Sci-fi geeks were going to be descending and knocking on their door. Once the ladys well founded fright was soothed she insisted on giving every last one a tamale. That is a favorite childhood memory.

    I owned French Kiss.

I had it for about a month, decided I really hated it after all, and ripped off sold it to a friend. We've been talking about bad music in the Nickelback thread, and I really didn't like his music, but I remember about a year or two ago I heard Sentimental Lady, probably playing in the supermarket, and I still knew every word and I actually got pissed when the song cut out for a store announcement.

    RIP

We need a good smiley suitable for the occasion....

3 time olympic gold medalist heavyweight boxer Teofilo Stevenson. Refused to fight professionally and became the great heavyweight 'what if' during the last prime era of the weight class.

I hate you. Actually, I hate this thread, and yet I still keep coming here....

The 76 Olympics were the first that I watched, I mean seriously watched. Three athletes stood out: Nadia Comaneci, Alberto Jauntorena, and Teofilo Stevenson. Talk about a "golden generation" for Cuba...

Apart from his boxing, I loved his name: Teofilo. For the first 25 years of my life, I kept budgies. My second one was named Boom Boom after Ray Mancini and my third one was named Teofilo.

LeRoy Neiman, Artist Who Captured Sports & Public Life, Dies at 91 - N.Y. Times

    :( RIP LeRoy.

This was another case of critics scoffing when work has commercial value -- clearly a criminal offense for anyone engaged in the arts. God forbid ordinary people enjoy something and "get" it.
