I thought I would create a thread on the general performances of players in English youth football. Whilst I know this section is for Engand international football and England international youth football, I thought it would be good where we had a thread for general debate.

    So that...

1.) We don't mention England youth players performances for their clubs in the England youth threads and leave them for actual England games/squads and tournament discussion.

2.) We can see how our England youth footballers are getting on for those inside the squads and outside of them.

3.) We can even chat about foreginers involved in the sides as even though we are England football enthusiasts, a lot of us are also big followers of youth football in gerneral.

4.) We can maybe gather up goal-scoring stats for all players, match reports, lists of squads and logs and so on, in here.

Great idea. Can't wait for the season to get started, wasn't able to make Chelsea's first Under-18 friendly but hope to get to at least one of the other two before the league starts in late August.

Our Under-16 coach mentioned on TV the other day that seven U16s have already secured scholarships for next summer so I expect they'll be heavily involved throughout the season. Promising times (as I rate 2012's intake higher than 2011's).

I can't wait for the season as well. Starts on the 20th of August.

So the boys with the ENG U17's for the international tournament will miss the first couple of games.

Interested to see the squads at many clubs when the season starts.

Forest played their first season game on Saturday, beat Ilkeston 9-1. Second years played 1st half (without Lascelles who is with 1st team) and won 5-1 & our 1st years played the 2nd half and won 4-0.

@Juni: You think many of your u16's will get into matchday squads for u18's ?

At Forest our academy doesn't really like to promote youngsters to u18's from u16's no matter how good you are. But last season it happened...we had 5 u16's involved at various points. This year I can definitely see one of our boys being involved with u18's as an u16 but still hoping a few others will get a look in...but we do have a big u18 squad this season.

    We used 19 last season!

I expect the seven guys who they referred to are Alex Kiwomya, Mitchell Beeney, Jordan Houghton, Bertrand Traore, Reece Mitchell, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Fankaty Dabo (although there's another Swedish lad in the squad who must have one if he's come over already).

Certainly we'll see more of some than others; last season Alex Davey and Adam Nditi both played north of 20 matches. I'd expect Houghton and Beeney to see such time this year, maybe Traore if he stays here (some WP concerns, he scored in pre-season last week).

Let's make sure this thread keeps the focus on the England players. If it turns into a Premier League discussion, it will be binned. Thank you

we have 50% claim to Jon Toral Harper i thought? :)

out of that list...Ansah, Akpom, Lipman, BOO, Rees have been called up. waiting on Bunjaku.

always wondered why we don't give the likes of Blackman at CFC or Charles-Cook a go in goal.

Blackman has had a decent amount of caps but the coaches seem to prefer Johnstone over him for cover for Butland.

They are either not England qualified (for the national team) or England isn't their main choice to play for at this moment in time.

Obviously it includese slighlty older players, but there are still some of the ENG youth players involved.

    ESPANYOL 2 MAN CITY 0

    Manchester City:

Lawlor (Karius h-t), Trippier (c), Meppen-Walter (Plummer h-t), Clowes, Kennedy, Rekik, Roman (Scapuzzi h-t), Benali (Drury 65), Cole (Hilwula h-t), Ibrahim, Helan (Henshall 80)

A young City side lost to Espanyol on Saturday evening but gained some valuable European experience ahead of the start of the NextGen League.

Goals either side of the break gave the hosts the win in Barcelona, with Pablo Zabaleta taking time off from a well-earned break to check out the talent coming through at both his former and current clubs. City’s best chances came from Devante Cole and Ahmad Benali.

Loris Karius, on as a second half substitute, did well to keep out a penalty in the 73rd minute and coach Andy Welsh rang the changes to give most of the squad a chance to impress with competition hotting up as the season approaches.

Andy told mcfc.co.uk, "It was a tough game, but we wanted a test for the lads and to make it feel like a proper European tie. Espanyol fielded two completely different sides with much older players, but we did not mind that, and our lads competed excellently with them.

"Kieran Tripper was outstanding again, as was Karim Rekik. We had four 16-year-olds on the pitch for the last 30 minutes or so, and as a unit there is a lot we can take from this.

"It was great to see Zaba as well, he needs a break after the Copa America but it was a nice touch of him to come along and see us."

Next up is a visit to the Netherlands and a fixture against Nijmegan next Friday.

Liverpool's u18 squad is still a work in progress as we have about half a dozen players on trial with us at the moment with about that number still to trial before the end of pre-season. At the moment it looks like this:

    GKs:
    Tyrell Belford (2nd)
    Conor Wearing (1st)
    Yusuf Mersin (1st)...Turkey

    DEFs:
    Peter Aylmer (2nd)
    Jack Robinson (2nd)
    Matty Regan (2nd)
    Joe Rafferty (2nd)...Ireland
    Brad Smith (2nd)
    Tom King (2nd)...Australia
    Ryan McLaughlin (1st)...Northern Ireland
    Michael Wilson (1st)

    MIDs:
    Lewis Hatch (2nd)
    Toni Silva (2nd)...Portugal
    Josh Sumner (2nd)
    Tom Walsh (2nd)
    Henoc Mukendi (2nd)
    Yalany Baio (1st)...Portugal
    Jack Dunn (1st)
    Sam Gainford (1st)
    Jordan Lussey (1st)
    Kristoffer Petersson (1st)...Sweden
    Raheem Sterling (1st)
    Nathan Quirk (1st)

    FWs:
    Adam Morgan (2nd)
    David Moli (1st)

Those in bold are the ones I don't think will feature much, if at all for the 18s this season. Robinson will be with the first team most of the time and occasionally with the reserves while the others will be with the reserves and also play a part in our u19 Next Generation tournament squad so they'll have enough games without having to feature in the 18s. I reckon Morgan will probably move up to the reserves/19s at some point before Christmas as well.

The trialists we've had have been mostly forwards as we're a little light in that position. We've already agreed a deal with an American kid Villyan Bijev but he's due to go on loan to Genk. Another American Marc Pelosi is due over for a trial, Marco Bueno who featured for Mexico at the under 17 World Cup is coming this week and we've had a Spaniard called Nacho from Atletico Madrid who got 4 goals and 3 assists in his two trial games. We've also 3 Senegalese kids and a Peruvian CB over at the moment too.

Judging from pre-season it looks like this year's squad will take up where last year's left off and be very strong. I've been pretty impressed with some of the first years in pre-season.

At the back Wilson looks very good, he's been playing mostly at RB but is usually a CB, looks good on the ball and has contributed well to the attack.

In midfield Baio is a classy DM reminiscent of Makelele, he plays with more maturity than any other 15-year-old I've seen in that position. Lussey and Dunn are both excellent technical footballers, both are on the short side but they each move the ball well, make great runs and get their fair share of goals. Sam Gainford has been very impressive as well, he's a bit of a throw-back winger, reminds me a bit of Waddle with a bit of McManaman thrown in, scored a lot from wide positions as well.

Up front Moli looks a threat, he has obvious physical attributes but he seems like a good finisher and his movement has been good too. We've played him on the right a bit too so he's not just a target man.

Yeah we've another lad Andrew Oliver coming over on trial next week apparently. Don't know how we're getting work permits for them. Maybe we're going to send them all to Genk.
