Not in 2006. 100% Serie A. Something to be said for that?

Di Matteo I believe played abroad and was picked and the same with Vieri the year he played Spain. I remember Cesare Maldini failed to bring Zola even though he had scored against England in the qualifier. I can't really think of many more who played abroad.

I know it's always Serie A players. Just like English, Spanish nt always field wholly domestic league talent.

Only two NTs in 2006 fielded sides entirely from their domestic leagues:

    Italy and Saudi Arabia

If Italy makes 2nd round, these are the possible scenarios....

SATURDAY 28 June – Rio de Janeiro
    Winner Group C vs. Runner-up Group D

    Japan vs. Italy
    Ivory Coast vs. Italy
    Greece vs. Italy
    Colombia vs. Italy

    SUNDAY 29 June – Recife
    Winner Group D vs. Runner-up Group C

    Italy vs. Japan
    Italy vs. Ivory Coast
    Italy vs. Greece
    Italy vs. Colombia

On paper historically, Italy shouldn't have a problem but history can always change....

Oh man I would love it for Italy to humiliate Greece at the World Cup.
