Of course, Seattle could solve that by also selecting Dema Kovalenko.

You gotta have someone run around and collect and bag the balls after practice....

I'm very pleased United is unscathed by the expansion draft. Looks like a pretty low budget crew.... Can't say it's who I would have picked.

I think the only surprises on that list are the last four.

There's a certain indignity in nobody from DC United being picked.

I personally would've taken Doe or Cordeiro over Vagenas so I'll lay some of the blame on Seattle's ineptness.

Yeah, I've never understood Sigi's confidence in Vagenas.

    / to continue the rumor-mongering ... ;)

He is an honest player, puts in the work, etc., but if that's what I was looking for, I'd have chosen Joe Vide, who has the same attributes, is younger & costs less. But of course, it's not my money.

so I guess their offensive strategy will be to run people over using brute strength rather than any discernible skills.
Is Nate Jaqua going for Andy Williams MLS record for number of teams to drop/trade/give you away?

I cannot even fathom why someone would want this douchebag on their team, except to make people snicker at his name for comedy's sake.....

Re: Vagenas - wasn't he Captain of our 2000 Olympic Team? I know he led that team in scoring. Can't be too bad. Maybe it's a "veteran leadership" thing.

Sturgis is a surprise to you? I actually expected them to take Vagenas as well. It's also not that big a surprise that we didn't have anyone taken. If anyone were taken, it would have been Vide, but Vagenas has the dreaded "e" word ........ experience. For an expansion team, it's no surprise for them to go in that direction in the middle of the field.

I doubt we waive Rod, at least right away - we have got to be able to get at least a 2nd or 3rd round draft pick for him.
    Maybe from Colorado ;)

Let me retract this statement. I forgot that Randolph was on their list. Wow, I'm shocked that they didn't pick him up from that team. Oh well. Whatever.

I'll give you "Lightning" Rod Dyachenko and a bag of balls for that old washed up loser Christian Gomez and $250k in allocation money.

How can you pass that up?

Sturgis? I guess I don't believe the hype. He logged an amazing 118 minutes for RSL this year.

I think that our roster is better than some people think. We need to perform better in the back, but that doesn't mean that we don't have a lot of solid pieces on our roster. Not getting anyone picked off in the expansion draft is one of the unwanted benefits of not making the playoffs - people have the worst possible perception of our players. Obviously, anything that increases our flexibility in the off season is good.

Now it will be interesting to see what happens between now and next year's first game. I don't like how we got here but, once you are in this position, I love flying under the "high expectations" radar. That is often where great things happen. I hope that, whatever moves are made, they are not done in as "high profile" a way as last year. When you have a huge off-season, sometimes there is nowhere to go but down once the season starts.

This last season was a little too "Washington Redskins-like" for my taste.

Hell, Clint Mathis topped that in less than three years.
