Not a player, but John Ellinger has retired: http://www.bigdsoccer.com/2012/11/15/3650998/fc-dallas-assistant-john-ellinger-retires
It's been quite the day (and not in a good way) for FC Dallas...not only has Ellinger retired, but their CEO was arrested in NYC for attempting to strangle and suffocate his wife. He's been placed on extended leave of absence to "take care of personal matters" (no shit). This brings up an interesting discussion point if anyone wants to talk about it: Does players (and apparently, presidents) behaving badly help or hurt the image of the league? You might could argue that making headlines off the field adds legitimacy to the sport by taking something off soccer's squeaky clean image in the eyes of casual sports fans. Note that I'm NOT advocating strangling someone or other lawbreaking activities, just saying that misbehavior certainly hasn't hurt the NFL.
Or has it? Perhaps it's just big enough to shrug off the occasional (or not so occasional) "off field issues".
It's a few days old, but I didn't see it posted on BS yet and he deserves the kudos. http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/artic...-seitz-named-2012-mls-works-humanitarian-year
Good for Seitz, he may not be a great goal keeper but he's a great person and that means a hell of a lot more.
Yura had not been playing for Krasnador for a few weeks, wonder if this was all part of the transfer? I would call this a big step up.
To me, it's only a matter of when, no if, for Yura now in terms of going to one of the big 4 league's in Europe. I'd put money on Germany being the first to call his name. However, I think a move to Italy would really suit his style of play.
Here's a fun thing for me, I have a Spartak Moscow jersey, given to me by some of my wife's friends in Moscow. One more step up for Yura.
I've seen it on twitter by quite a few people. Grant Whal the latest Grant Wahl @GrantWahl Ex-Salt Lake RT @arturpetrosyan Surprisingly good news for Spartak Moscow. Krasnodar and Armenia striker Yura Movsisyan is joining them soon
I have my sources...this one is particularly reliable on this matter. I see Grant Wahl is also tweeting it. For the record, if I'm not 100% sure I will say so.
From Pan Arminian site: Yura Movsisyan denies moving to FC Spartak Moscow Armenian national team and Krasnodar FC forward Yura Movsisyan has denied reports on his moving to FC Spartak Moscow . “I know nothing about it. I haven’t undergone any medical examination in Moscow club,” ITAR-TASS quoted the player as saying. Movsisyan struck 9 goals in 13 matches of Russian Cup to come 2nd in the list of top goal-scorers. However, he was forced to discontinue participation over a leg injury.
The winter transfer window isn't even open yet. It's possible that Spartak has already spoken to Krasnodar about picking him up during the next window, but can't really speak about it until the window opens. Check again in January when the winter window is open and see if he moves or not.
No official release yet, but more sources are saying that Yura will go to Spartak on a 7.5mil transfer.
8 million transfer, and 2.4 million salary for Yura with his new club. Big move for Yura as Spartak is more likely to qualify for major European tournaments. Also makes me laugh because I recall watching a RSL vs Kansas City Wizards match a few years back and recall listening to one of the K.C. Commentators commenting on how Yura would never amount to anything because he did not know how to give up the ball. Good for Yura that he did not listen to such nonsense, and to bad Paulo did.
yup, KC gave him up pretty cheap if i remember, it was garth's first trade and was sort of a test to see who he could bring in before he officially got the job. i doubt many could have projected his growth curve like he's been on, not many MLS players go on to be among leading scorers in european leagues (actually has any besides mcbride and deuce?)
