Eskilson tweets that he has a Chelsea trial and other interest. https://twitter.com/JREskilson He's a big '98 defender from Pa. http://www.ussoccer.com/teams/u-15-bnt/b/daniel-barbir.aspx Here are a couple of reports suggesting that some of the other clubs could be Norwich City and Sporting Lisbon: http://www.tribalfootball.com/articles/norwich-keen-american-teen-danny-barbir-3878191#.Ua31G9jhKSo http://lehighvalleyunited.com/International/Sporting/index_E.html His site. http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/footb...781?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter Fulham are snapping up American wonder boy Danny Barbir - under the noses of some of the top clubs in Europe The giant teenage attacker is a stand-out in the United States youth set-up and has dazzled in training during a brief stay at Craven Cottage.
Maybe the news of Chelsea interested was actually Fulham one, they somehow mistook the club. Or simply it's normal to train with as many while he's in London. Good move if he goes to Fulham.
He's listed as being on Philadelphia Union's U16 academy team (on their website; they don't have players listed on the official site), after leaving PDA. Funny if he is either going to Bradenton or Europe, to be on the Union's roster. Just a random comment - sometimes a player can get away with a negative attitude at a club like PDA, and other clubs looks for character and respect.
Doing some other digging through Twitter, looks like it's Man City Danny Barbir @DannyBarbir Flying to my new home now! Manchester, England. Gonna be hard leaving my fam and my girlfriend but it's all gonna pay off in the end.
Guess the Union will have a spot open on their U16 team. To0 bad rosters close September 1st. I have to assume he has an EU passport if his family does not have to move.
Of course he has a EU passport, by the way there are four players form the new U-17 cycle in Europe now with Barbir. Barbir- Man City - EU De la Torre- Fullham- EU Albelo- Hoffenheim- SOFA aggrement till 2018 which puts him at 18+ and problably with EU passport by then or before Perez- Fiorentina- ? still trying to figure out, but is great for Country soon will be C. Pulusic(croatia) and Silva (Portugal) roots
Manchester City beat Chicago Fire 6-1. Barbir had the first goal for City. City returns to the field tomorrow against Aspire Qatar.— J.R. Eskilson (@JREskilson) January 15, 2014 Note: this is a U16 tournament. I was trying to figure out how Man City was here and in the FA Cup at the same time.
Is that their U16 squad? Any thoughts about a 16 year old playing with 16 year olds vs. playing up a few years (U20 or U23)?
Well they probably just want to get Barbir some games, and since he's not officially signed yet, that means he's not registered and eligible to play in any league or FA Cup games for any of Man City's youth teams. Can just for now play in friendlies and tournaments like this.
Feels amazing scoring my first goal for man city! Also beat Chicago Fire 6-1! 😄⚽️👍— Danny Jacob Barbir (@DannyBarbir) January 15, 2014
An elite 16 year old American playing with 15 and 16 year olds at PDA? A problem. That same elite American playing with Man City's U16's? Perfectly fine.
Barbir turns 16 on Jan. 31 and it's also when he's eligible to sign his contract. Hopefully he can be registered to play with Man City's youth teams for the remainder of the season, not sure what the English rules are in regards to that.
