Such comments will not endear the Princess to her new "home" fans. Podolski: England Clash Would Be "No Problem" For Germany Story here.
yup best tweet of the night was from Joey Barton: https://twitter.com/#!/Joey7Barton " Andrea Pirlo doesn't just pass and caress the ball, he makes slow, sensual, really emotional love to it. #whataplayer" this game showed what really is a problem with England in international competition ...they do not have or value a possession mf that allows to slowly brew an attack...it's just not part of the english culture where bone crunching tackles, 50 yard hollywood balls, and lung busting direct runs are revered... for the life of me, I do not know why Carrick was not included in the squad...probably because "his tackling sucks" as the english media labels him...certainly Carrick is not on par with the Iniestas, Xavi's, or Modric's of the world but he holds possession better than anyone in an English shirt. Parker offered nothing meaningful to the game...leaving Gerrard too deep to link up with the top... Rooney...looking not match fit did not help...as for Milner..he was absolutely useless. credit to Italy...well deserved
Carrick wanted a guarantee that he was going to always be in the starting eleven or he wouldnt come. Hodgson told him that he was going to be a squad player so Carrick refused to go.
FA explain Carrick Euro 2012 omission Michael Carrick made himself unavailable for selection for Euro 2012, the FA have confirmed. Despite one of his best domestic seasons, the 30-year-old midfielder was not among the names in Roy Hodgson’s 23-man party for the tournament. “We were advised a few months ago that because of where he was in his career, that he wanted to step back from being called up and sitting on the subs bench. He will help in extreme situations,” confirmed the FA’s Adrian Bevington. It is believed the Manchester United star did not want to be considered as a squad player.
Funny that you chose not to BOLD the actual KEY WORDS in that final sentence. The key words there are IT IS BELIEVED. That's not fact. IT IS BELIEVED. Carrick also has had plenty of injury issues over the span of his career. Another opinion that is BELIEVED is he wants to save himself for club football. But I guess it is all in what you choose to BELIEVE!
This was all over the news. Fans all over England(not man utd fans of course) were slagging him off. Why didnt he make a statement to deny it ? The English FA is hardly secretive. Those kind of things leak out immediately. Carrick believes he was the best English central midfielder in 2011-2012 (which is true) and he deserves a starting spot. He talked to Hodgson.Later, Hodgson was asked about the talks they had and said : ''I wouldn't dream of putting Michael Carrick on a standby list after he's made it clear in the past he doesn't want to be involved like that. I'd have to be convinced he was better than the four(central midfielders) I've selected.....'' Those are the key words and it is true.
I am not sure this the accurate portrayal of what really happened....Not that Carrick can't be a bit of a cu#nt but Hodgson certainly had his preconceived ideas of who would be in a squad and what system he would use... selecting henderson and downing is shocking...not even discussing the process with carrick is equally troublesome taken in light of losing Barry before euro and Carrick's mf skills..
THANK YOU! timh19, the English FA lets "leak" WHAT IT WANTS YOU TO BELIEVE man......... Damn, there's that word again. They've done it for decades. And people keep falling for it........ Why should Carrick issue a denial to what is a load of crap to begin with? He knows some will believe what they wish to believe. He knows others will look at the big picture and realize the s#it doesn't make much sense. And most know it isn't worthwhile to even take on the English media's bulls#it.
Carrick is the closest thing England have to Xabi Alonso and last few coaches they have had had no idea what to do with him. It is kind of remarkable.
yup...it's the English mentality ....Carrick is not rated high enough by the press because his "tackling sucks"... in the same vein...Xabi Alonso was never given enough credit at Pool...it wasn't until he left...then the press started to realize..wait..this guy was pretty good.. yeah..Xabi is "ok" with his his wc, euro, CL, la liga title..
Xabi has been one of my favorite players for years now. Just look at how Gerrard's "form" dropped after Alonso left and Liverpool have not come close to replicating the success they had before.
too many loser FCB players in the starting 11. Podolski too had no business being there either. I think Loew stuffed this one up. Not to take anything away from Italy, they were good.
That loss had very little to do with "loser FCB players." I think it is bulls#it to even come out with that man. Bulls#it. That loss had everything to do with the Italians trusting their game plan and their supreme confidence to kick the young, nervous, Germans asses. It didn't help that Joachim Low basically put his team two men down in the first half by starting the Princess and Jerome Boateng. Italy repeatedly exploited Germany's right side. Poor Mats Hummels was basically playing center back AND right back. And yeah, I know Boateng is a Bayern player, but JB isn't really good enough for Bayern either. The Bayern players aren't the only ones who had bad days. For the most part, they all did. Germany fought back gallantly, but especially in midfield it was like men against boys. Italy kicked their f#cking asses in almost every aspect of the game. Prandelli had his team ready and kicked Low's ass tactially. Germany wasn't ready for what they faced. Low didn't give his team the best chance to win. I think mostly because he thought too much instead of just putting the guys out there who showed they were in the best form. Unlike many others who are posting in different places about this, I don't believe this should cost Low his job. What I do want to see is Low get his head out of his ass and drop guys like the Princess, Mertesacker, Kroos, and Jerome Boateng. I want to see him stop calling up guys just because they play for Bayern or were a great player in the past. I want Low to show he learned from his mistakes. Unfortunately, when you're a national coach, this is impossible to tell until qualifying for the 2014 World Cup starts........
In big games like this one, the first goal is massively important and unfortunately Hummels cost us. Instead of pushing Cassano to the corner flag or letting him pass the ball back, Hummels tried to take the ball and Cassano dribbled past him and crossed. Hummels expressed big regret for his mistake in the post-match interview. He is only 23. It is a learning experience for him. I am sure he will do better in 2 years in the world cup. Also, Neuer's movement for the first goal is absolutely terrible. The more I watch it the worse it gets. I will never know what he was doing. The way the ball was coming and Balotelli was jumping there was no other direction Mario could have hit the ball, why was neuer going away from that position ? WHY ? Another important moment in the match was Lahm's unbelievable miss in the 49th minute. He scored a much harder chance against Greece but this time he couldnt even hit the target. If that had gone in, it would change the game. Germany wouldnt throw so many people forward and leave so much space for Italy. They would have gotten confidence and 40 min to score an equalizer.
looks to me as though you actually agree with my sentiments...so not really BS hay man. Again, should have dropped Podolski, JB, Schwein, Gomez, Kroos (shouldn't have started)...ie. he kept selecting too many loser FCB players. I Also said that Italy played better. Agreed that it shouldn't cost him his job. Please try to think a little more before you start shooting your mouth off
First of all, you think a little before you decide to tell me what to do. F#ck that shit man. Second, we don't "agree" because those players, save for the Princess and Boateng, aren't "losers." Only one of those two is a Bayern player and that one really shouldn't be one. Gomez was a victim of the other selections. Mainly the Princess not showing up stifling any chance the midfield had to do anything in the first half. Gomez is a striker who needs midfield service. If he doesn't get it, he won't do much. I don't like seeing BVB fans seemingly getting big f#cking heads already. We own Bayern's asses AT THE MOMENT, but we've got DECADES of winning to do before we can start talking shit about them. I know this is a BVB forum, but how about showing some f#cking class?? That's the one thing we usually have them beaten on already. A little friendly teasing is cool. However, calling their players "losers" is really classless BS in my book.
oh please, save me the condescending lecture about BVB fans acting like pork chops, I know FCB are no. 1 in Germany.... After having lost a CL FInal, DFB Pokal Final, and meisterschaft, yes, the FCB players - I imagine - would feel down on their confidence and would feel like a bunch of losers, to then go on and lose the Semi Final against a team they were expected to beat would make this worse. I think Gomez made a comment to this affect as well. When I refer to 'loser' i am referring more to the mentality. It was not only tactics that Low got wrong, but I am sure mentality of the players was not good. peace
Let's agree to disagree and drop it. I hope that's cool. We'll have more important things to discuss in a few days.
