Interesting read. I think the YMCA bid probably has a better chance. They seem to have a better funding plan. But it would be nice to add a USL Pro team to Oregon if a couple of the northwest PDL teams moved up.

I agree. but the soccer proposal leaves it open to the YMCA to utilize the other portion of the land. Kind of a win win for the City if they decide to give part tohe Save teh Civic group (lease money coming in each year) and from YMCA (immediate funds for the city)

plus it might be the link between the PNW teams looking to go USLPro and the California teams..

definatley worth keeping an eye on

astro turf? what is this? the old NASL?

...I like to bash oon the puerto rico teams. even in on a oregon forum:p
Bahamas and somewhere in the midwest would be fine for replacing these failed PR teams. and, of course this oregon plan seems like a legit ownership forming up behind this.

Though at first I didn't really like the idea of usl/nasl using basbeall stadiums for their fields, I kinda like them now. Great idea for the old stadium in Eugene by the way. Nobody uses it. hope that happens in Orlando.

The Citrus Bowl uses AstroTurf now. It's the new variety. Infinitely better than "painted concrete", but still not quite as good as FieldTurf.

Yep. That price tag seems to say to me "We don't want anyone renting this." Seems like an odd choice, but I'm not an economics or business professional. They must have their reasons for pricing it too high for anyone to find worth renting.

(Looking at the math, for a USLPRO team playing 12 home games, that comes out to $20,000+/game, and that's without the necessary stadium/field improvements or insurance. That's even out of the range of an NASL team. Not that they'd drop another one that far away from all the other teams.)

If they rent the stadium for a year do they control the stadium for that time period. In other words, could they hold concerts, sub-lease to other sporting events, i.e. High school football, etc.
Would they also get all concessions and parking revenues?

From what I read it sounds like the school district will turn over the stadium to the renter for basically $5,000/wk for the year.

    Isn't $250,000 a year rent is a lot for a USLPRO team?

Yes if it's just for the 12 dates.

I'd say it was a lot for any team, especially for what they are getting. I recall reading that Wilmington was leasing Legion Field for $850 per game and a split of concessions and alcohol sales that is favorable to the Hammerheads.

If the party in Oregon can sub lease it like CFL- fan said, it might be doable but Eugene is still out there geographically unless the west coast division emerges.

If there were an actual Western Division, this would be a cool idea.

But there is no Western Division. This simply cannot work if the nearest club is LA Blues or Phoenix City.

Not that it's stopped USL before, but...

Page has 278 supporters now. You probably found it right after it was formed. That means some sort of word of mouth is getting around the area.

Any ownership yet or just public money to build the stadium?

EDIT: answer my own question here.

The new organization — United Stadium Group — is working to start a soccer club called Lane United FC, which would field semiprofessional teams and, hopefully, a pro team to play in the stadium, Crasilneck said.

Sounds like they still need funding. But the big difference is the new group is willing to work with a developer who could put retail or housing on the remainder of the property. So that's a possible way to raise needed funds to rehab the stadium. But sounds like they would still need funds to run the club.

hopeful for a PDL team by 2014 and possible Pro team after that but start with the PDL and try and get crowds at that. vs timbers u23 etc. im not sure would they share stadium with the baseball team or use it only for football. from what i gather pitch's which are used for both are not great for football as the pitch is torn up and there can be a conflict with games.

Also the crest looks really like Nottingham Forrest in England.

Why dont Salem Oregon join the PDL at the same time as Eugene and they would have a nice rivalry. similar size town and less traveling than Eugene slightly

    Talk to Salem about it.

Oh, wait, no, you can't, because cities don't "join leagues." Ownership groups do.

Its a nice thought, but Kenn nailed it. So find a investor with money to burn and sell him the idea.
