Was talking about this with a buddy of mine. A couple of good theories . . . 1) As attractive as it would be to play for Barcelona, it is currently a BITCH of a lineup to crack right now. With no player movement (indeed, with the exact same lineup when training camp opens), it's got to be intimidating to try to bring players in. Not many starters on other sides want to see themselves as role players in Blaugrana. 2) The Blown Market. There's a reason Ferguson said "We're done" with this year's transfer market. There's no value to be had out there when Ibrahimovic is going for north of 80mil. Hell, Poulsen at 13mil -- FOR A GUY WHO WILL NOT CRACK THE JUVE LINEUP -- is insane. They're selling a guy they don't want (and will not play) for more than they paid. If I thought they were capable of plotting this all out, I'd swear Madrid decided to blow the market out this year to screw with Barca's ability to reinforce.
As soon as I saw the title, I just had to think of this gem again: Thanks again, to whomever dug it out! Unclesox? Reps are due!
Poulsen? No thanks, definitely not at that price. I agree with geordienation's theory A about crackin' into Barca's line-up, especially the ideal starting line-up. But there is room for one world class attacker/midfielder since we need rotation and injuries will come. With the defenders, it's so much about injuries. LB is definitely needed and if there was some single player in our starting eleven who didn't make himself unreplacable, it was IMO Abidal, although obviously he too played really well as in a team that successful can't really be too much weak performing.
Agreed. It's just that Ribery will cost at least as much as Kaka did, maybe even a little more. And then we're talking about too expensive. Another thing is if we can include players in the deal.
Ribery seems impossible now. I would get Mata. Sport is reporting that Barca is close to signing Maxwell from Inter.
Maxwell for 4 million euros is a good deal. He can play LB and he can also play in the midfield if needed.
Great signing: cheap, experienced at the highest level, can play multiple positions, and doesn't need to start. We need more of those.
That's a bargain. Good player Max. And this then effectively puts an end to the Filipe Luis chase yes?
