Played the last 2 games as starter, one cup game against Mersin and league game against Sivasspor. Promises to be a VERY, VERY solid centreback. Either Zapotocny, the Czech international or Matteo Ferrari (Roma/Genoa/Italy) will lose their starting spot to Ersan, or both will and Ersan will be a starter with Toraman. He has become a fan favourite at Besiktas. He is fast, extremly powerfull, very strong in the air and has good passing ability. Schuster is delighted with him and Hiddink will also call him up for the friendly against the Netherlands. He's a huge talent and I'd say he's easily on par with Neill at the moment, and can be much better then him.

Hope not, sounds like he is going well. We could use him in the Australia team.

if his heart is set on playing for turkey then good for him, hope it all pans out for him, but if he is still undecided and is going to take the fist cap given to him then why are we not looking into this guy?

Was rated man of the match by Besiktas fans today against Porto. Match ended 1-1, Besiktas outplayed Porto in the second half and should have won, 2 shots off the crossbar. Ersan was magnificent once again. He ate the fowards of Porto alive. Porto took the lead after 36 thnx to a dive of Falcao and got away with a penalty. Outside that, the fowards of Porto could hardly do anything. Ersan was magnificent 1 on 1. His best moment was when cleared the ball off the goalline around the 85th minute. Pretty much any Fenerbahce en Galatasaray fan talk about how they missed out on a player like Ersan.

    Ersan after the match ;

"The Porto player lobbed the ball. When I saw the ball lobbed over our keeper I thought my heart was gonna stop, but I knew I could reach the ball."

The guy is class. But he wants to play for Turkey, he said it after the Besiktas match. He hasn't talked to anyone of the Socceroos so far he says.

He reminds Ujfalusi with his style and looks.

    http://fanatik.ekolay.net/Ujfalusi-Ersan_3_Detail_33_201081.htm

"It's an honor to be compared with a defender like him."

If we lose this guy & he turns out to be a star, I will be spitting chips. Not at him but at the FFA/Australian coaching staff.

he's a gun defender i've been wanting him to get called up and capped for at least a year now..holger just shouldn't hesitate and just call him up for the egypt game..if he says no to that request and decides to play for turkey then we can consider him a traitor..though also poor form by ffa for not giving any kind of contact to him..

True. If the FFA/Coaches haven't made any contact, you can't blame him for accepting a call-up for Turkey. But we sure as hell can blame the FFA.

He wouldn't really be a traitor. He did pretty much all of his football development in Turkey, unlike Joe Simunic who came through the AIS then turned his back on Australia.

Gulum is in pretty much the same boat as Avraam Papadopoulos. No one whinges about him being a traitor either.

It would be a real shame if we lost him. He should of been called up a long time ago but yet again the bumbling FFA get their shit wrong.

FFA: "Who needs Ersan Gulum when we've got Jade North?"

Makes me sick to think those 2 still get picked in Socceroos squads.

He'll play today against Kasimpasa. Besiktas wants to sell Matteo Ferrari because Schuster rates Ersan much higher.

It will be a battle between the FFA and the TFF, as it's said that Hiddink will also call him up for the game against the Netherlands. It's all up to Ersan I think. He said he didn't hear anything from the Socceroos and wants to play for Turkey. The Turks will be pissed off if Hiddink just sits there and lets Ersan play for the Socceroos, as they already missed out on players like Ozil, Derdiyok and Tasci.

Ersan would be a boost for either teams, whoever he will pick. I saw Neill play yesterday against Trabzonspor, he was seriously ripped apart by Jaja and Engin Baytar. Elastico's, ball trough the legs.

Besiktas played 1-1 against Kasimpasa. Ersan played great. Had 2 critical tackles in the beginning of the match. One of them was when the Kasimpasa foward stood 1 on 1 against the keeper, just like when he did with Falcao. He did that twice actually in this game, with the same player. His tackling is great. High class really. His heading is strong too. Also 1 on 1 with the attacker he's very calm. He was tested by Yekta Kurtulus, one of the more technical players in the TSL, Ersan just stood calm and made sure he got the ball. However, his best moment was when he stole the ball of a Kasimpasa midfielder, another Kasimpasa player ran at Ersan to get the ball, and suddenly Ersan does a 360 spin :D The whole stadium was chanting for him.

Btw, a Besiktas goal was cancelled at 90+3 and Guti missed a penalty at 90+4 :(

I really doubt he said that. He said in an interview after the Porto game that he will keep doing his best to wear the Turkish jersey. Even when he was a reserve he said he'll keep fighting to wear the BJK jersey and eventually the jersey of the national team. However, I believe Kewell nd Neill would try to convince him.

i doubt the world game would quote a player like that if he didn't say something. They are usually a reputable source... time will tell!

osieck didn't pick him, instead giving 31 year old sasa Ognenovski his first call up, as well as jade north....

    i feel sick...

    Ognenovski deserved a call-up though.

But Jade North sheesh....Just knew he was going to get in for some reason. There has to be some sort of agenda pusher there somewhere. How someone with his limited ability, and his shocking form, continually get called up? It's unbelievable.

Another token call up for Thwaite as well. Form in the A-League is one thing, being good enough internationally is another. He wasn't good enough years ago and I doubt he will make a positive effect now.

Does Osieck really think these guys are better than Gulum?

true, sasa does deserve a callup, yet at 31 is hardly anything more than an asian cup contender. I know its way too early to judge gulum properly, but there are not too many options in defence atm, and a 23 year old playing europa league sounds better than someone like jade north, who is struggling to hold down a position at wellington...
