He has looked decent in preseason. I don't know how good he is gonna get but he is decent for a player his age.

I forgot who was the opponent he was playing against but almost every time they would attack, his name would be mentioned. His marking ability is not bad.

His name is being brought up in a lot of places now. One report has the deal at $250,000 initial payment, with more to come and him staying another year with SKC.

One huge difference for Lletget ... an EU passport made his move pretty easy. Gil wouldn't have qualified for a work permit in the UK.

I believe Lletget moved before the new under 18 rule took effect in 2009, but he still needed an EU passport to get his Work Permit.

This was the whole Arsenal situation for Gil: http://www.mlssoccer.com/mlscup/201...s-gil-spurned-arsenal-and-kansas-city-become-

Gil's started 57 games, appeared in 84 total (regular season), been making about $200K a year all by his 20th birthday.

Here's the latest from Alfredo Pedullà (translated from Italian):

Exclusive: Juve up the offer for Palmer-Brown. And now…

Erik Palmer-Brown will ship off to Juventus. Last night’s meeting with Sporting Kansas City achieved the desired results. Juve raised their offer to $800K plus bonuses, and now the deal is close to being sealed. Also because the 16-year-old defender, whose current contract expires in 2015, has said yes.

The meeting proved fruitful, and the Bianconeri’s intermediary
Maurizio Franzone kept his club updated on the details. A positive outcome is now just a step away. The president of the MLS club, who is out of town at the moment and will return in a few days, was kept informed on every detail by Peter Vermes; previously the coach had slyly (and rightly) denied any kind of a deal. SKC also sought an increase in the offer because, as per MLS rules, 33% of any sale must go to the league.

A few days ago two representatives from Chelsea had arrived in the USA ready to make an offer, but Juventus have by now established a significant advantage. Now the Palmer-Brown deal is truly in the home stretch and lacks only the signatures on the documents. As the youngster is not in possession of a European passport, the idea is that of bringing him to Juve for the 2015/16 season when he will have reached the age of eighteen.

In the meantime, both parties have expressed their desire to set up training stints in Italy in order to enable Erik to get used to his future situation, perhaps also accompanied by his mother and other close relatives. Juve have turned up the pressure in recent weeks, convinced by their excellent relationship with Palmer-Brown. And now they’re preparing to reap the rewards.

As we expected................Juve was trying to get the deal done quickly before other clubs could jump in.

Still think the price is fairly cheap, but whatever. He's an unproven 16 year old whose contract expires in 2015.

Seriously, what's with the short contracts for homegrown talents? EPB signed his contract in ~August of 2013, and it expires in 2015? Seems like we've had a couple of these head-scratchers recently (Moreno, etc.)

    The penultimate sentence should read:

Juve have turned up the pressure in recent weeks, convinced by the excellent reports on Palmer-Brown.

    Politico-speak.

In theory if the deal hasn't gone down yet....................he's right. Nothing has changed.

It's like Hinchey in Colorado repeatedly saying Pareja was their coach and nothing had changed in that regard. Meanwhile Pareja was in the FC Dallas locke-room with paint swatches........................

Didn't they write earlier in the thread that SKC turned down a 1 million Euro offer ($1.3) but now they are accepting an $800K offer? That's some really good negotiating from SKC. His conract was signed in 8/13 but expires in 2015? Some thing doesn't smell right in Denmark or Italy.

I would guess its like most HG deals, 3 year contract with 2 additional years of club options.

I thought i read somewhere that FIFA max contract is 5.5 year length, no way i would ever find it to link it.

On price, you don't know how much of his rights they are buying, MLS/ KC might want to keep 40% of his rights for future transfer fees.

I'm pretty sure it is not. There is a big difference in physical maturity between the two groups. Earl Edwards was THE U17 National team keeper - played less the 200 minutes his first two years. Javon Torre was a starter for the US U20 world cup team and was the 7 or 8 in minutes among defenders in the fall after the tournament. Amick played a lot for the U18s in 2012 and played a lot of minutes for UCLA - but was certainly not considered to be among the best CBs in the conference. The reality is that only the best of the best of college players are ready to step in year one and on the better teams like UCLA, former U18s are fighting for starting spots and are not the elite players in the league. Super speedy young kids can compete on the flanks or at forward. It is very different in the more congested areas of the field.

SUDano's completely right on this one. ManCity's youth team is stacked with top youth players who have absolutely no chance of seeing the field for their first team. Home town kids like Trapp for the Crew, Yedlin for the Sounders, or Palmer-Brown mean a lot to their clubs and they have a lot invested in them and will expend a lot of extra effort to help them become successful. If he goes to a massive club in Europe he is simply another kid with good potential. If he shows some immediate promise might put a more emphasis on helping him advance, but if he doesn't he's just among the many kids they have that never make it.

How much of that is their development and much of it is simply starting with more talented players? As players mature the the key to critical success moves from practice to playing.

That number came from other websites/sources. But Alfredo Pedullà never mentioned a figure that high on his site. In fact, the first one he mentioned was for $250K, so according to his reports the offer has only gone up.

We also must remember that since Erik is a homegrown signing, SKC get to keep a higher percentage of any transfer fee/future fees than a non-homegrown signing.

So anything SKC can negotiate will really benefit them.

Erik would be the...............third??.................homegrown signing to be sold abroad? After Najar and Agudelo?

Agudelo, unfortunately, wasn't sold. He signed on free.

    Harrumph! You're right.

Although as we know there wasn't much incentive for the Revs to sell, as they would have gotten little of the profits.
[Apparently......................although I'm still confused on how that would have broken down between the league office and his 3 clubs.]

Plus this way they get to keep his rights if he comes back.

Just doesn't show alot. Alot of kick ball. No short passing out of the back. A few runs out of the back he just doesn't complete and it gets cut right when he's losing the ball. Got ball stuck underneath him alot. He needs better competition because alot of his defending was stripping the ball from falling players or ones with bad touch. He is far from first team football. I hate these highlight videos that think they are showing quality play but are just glimpses of nothingness.

Yeah didn't quite have ideal footage to work with for this. His short passing was good, but he played simple 5 yard balls to his other center back the whole time, which would have gotten boring quick had I included them. I thought his defending was solid personally. Took great angles, and dove in at the correct times to make the challenge and win the ball back.

I'm not so sure his long diagonal balls would best be described as kick ball though. Those 30/40 yard passes took confidence and technique to execute, and he didn't miss one.

    Thanks for the feedback though.
