I think it is a slap in the face to fans from up North. How are they expected to attend the game without taking time off work?
True, but that means match-going fans are being screwed all across Europe. Anyway, UEFA are changing it soon, to 'a week of qualifiers' which will include some Weekend games. It is more about TV than caring about match-going fans though. http://www.uefa.org/events/marketing/media-rights-and-services/news/newsid=1939716.html
Wow, I was just having a look at the various groups and it seems to me that the England - Montenegro matchup is possibly the most critical game left in the qualifications. I don't mean to be condescending to England in any way, Ukraine and Montenegro can be tough opponents for any team, as can Poland. Out of the top three in the group, England is only one point up, but they have two difficult games left, while it may be expected that both Ukraine and Montenegro will both win their second games fairly easily, I guess the Ukrainian team must really fancy their chances right now. This means Montenegro will have to win against England to have any chance, while England must win two difficult games to preserve their top spot. I really want to see this game now.
3-0 lambert to go on a twisting run from out wide, then curl one in from the left rooney to score an overhead kick from the halfway line and hart to score directly from a free kick good odds tbh
If Woy selects Townsend and Sturridge I fancy us to win 3-1. But if he picks Welbeck and Milner it will be a painful 1-1 draw.
Montenegro FA President is claiming that his team has mass injury issues. Six players are out injured including their first choice keeper, defender Marko Baša and captain Mirko Vučinić. They also have one player suspended and another can't enter the country with visa issues. I guess we'll see how bad it actually is closer to the game.
Great news: 1. Mirko Vucinic will miss out. That is huge because he is the captain and top goal scorer. 2. Stevan Jovetic may miss out as well, but the manager says he "expects him to be ready be." He has been ruled "doubtful." 3. Goal keeper Mladen Bosovic will miss out. 4. Centre back Marko Basa will miss out. 5. Midfielder Miodrag Pekovic will miss out. 6. Defender Miodrag Dzudovic may also miss out as well with a back injury and a hamstring strain. He has been ruled "doubtful." 7. Montenegro didn't call up Vladimir Bozovic who played against Poland because he is suspended for the England game on yellow cards. This is big break for England and this brings Montenegro's level down some. They had 4 starters out against Ukraine at home and lost 4-0. They will still go for a win, but don't be surprised if they park the bus and hold on for a draw. Montenegro is a team that NEEDS their starting XI to be there for them. They may possibly have half of their starting IX out. Their talent pool drops pretty low.
Remember when they had a handful of injuries against Ukraine in Montenegro? 0-4. England is for sure the better team now. Montenegro always have a few options, but now they almost have none. It will be a shame if England do not win.
If they have a load of injuries ,Woy has no excuse to play cautious. I bet he would settle for a brutal 1-0 win playing bad football .
I'd still take that just to be sure. But really we should shove it down their throats and win easily.
The problem is this mentality among English coaches that good football is a luxury that great teams have, rather than the reason they're great in the first place.
Well the last time Sturridge was in the squad, Roy played that formation against Ireland. We had 4 good chances of scoring and took 1 of them. I like the 4-3-3. We scored 3 goals against Scotland who played well against us and probably better than the team Montenegro will field on Friday.
Poland vs Ukraine game isn't going to be played behind closed doors, but there will be another announcement made about the matter. It would play as an advantage to Poland because it will simply be a game with no one in the stands. We want Poland to get a result in this one.
England vs Montenegro this decade: October 2010 Bosevic kept them in the game. October 2011 Couldn't hold on and also just needed the draw. March 2013 Couldn't hold on and Gerrard says "We stopped playing." Also Bosevic had a nice save at the end, stopping a Gerrard screamer.
I too think this team is likely to be the one we see. The only difference might be Townsend instead of Milner, if Roy wanted to go more attacking from the start. Walker has had a poor couple of games recently, so I am not sure if he has a physical problem hampering him, so maybe having Milner to help protect that side could benefit the team.
