Rio has been creaking and looked slow and weak the last time I saw him play, but if he gets his fitness levels back and can stay injury free, he is still comfortably England's best defender (King aside ;))

Terry needs to go & Cahill doesn't seem to really excel at anything. Never understood why he is rated by anyone other than Bolton fans.

No need to play Rio in friendlies, we know what he can do when fit. We should give Jones & Smalling a run together.

Jones isn't ready yet. Smalling seems more consistent, so I'd be looking at him and Terry (Terry ain't getting dropped, no matter how many people might wish it) getting time together.

I'd like to see Smalling/Jones given a go against Spain.

I'm not expecting any kind of result from the Spain game.. all I can ask is that Capello picks a balanced 4-3-3 with the right players in the right positions (not Downing on the right for example) and not an ultra cautious rigid formation.

If he can do that and give Welbeck and co a start then I will not complain about Capello or the players even though it is likely we will lose

digging through it, he's got a point...comes down to opportunities at the upper levels of the game...coupled with proper coaching, teaching at the lowest levels of the game...

I thought that before the game began. The idea of needing 2 holding players against Montenegro, (whether away from home or not), was too defensive and restrictive. They're a reasonable side but not much more. During the game one of the commentators said we should recognise one of the fellas coming on because he played half a season, (or something), for Blackburn although he only started about 4 games... and for THIS side we need 2 holding players??? That says it all as far as I'm concerned.

It was only when we fell apart and invited them on to us that they looked anything at all.
