Yeah, we were the only team to beat them in qualifying. Also drew against them at the Algarve tournament.
Netherlands didnt deserve to win in the final. Germany were the much better team. Netherlands equalized in the last second of the match and then went straight to penalties ( no extra time) and the dutch players had more confidence because of that.
Bayern Munich also said the same. But that is football(unless you're Arsenal), play well & score at least one more than your oppo. If you can't then you're not deserved to win. It's not the defending teams fault that you failed in your act. Football without result is youth development & training practice, not international standard matches.
It would be nice to win the u17 Euros again and this lot might well do it I think. Hopefully one or two of the strikers will come on next season. I'd have thought the Chelsea lads like Hunte might have trouble finding spots in the Chelsea u18 side next season - even with the NexGen giving games to the olders players.
Others in squad: Jordan Rossiter Brendan Galloway - MK Dons Dele Alli - MK Dons Nathan Oduwa - Spurs Brown on standby
In an u16 game between MK Dons and Spurs last year Alli and Winks wore number 4 shirt for their sides Galloway number 8 Oduwa was number 11
Be interesting to see if there's any Chelsea in this. I know they like to take the new first-years away in late July/early August for a pre-season bonding camp etc and they usually include some schoolboys in there. That said, Nordics is, as we're seeing, used as a chance for more younger guys to get a crack but most of Chelsea's eligible schoolboys have already featured for the U16s and so opportunities clearly going to others.
From a Nottingham Forest perspective, we don't have any English players born in early 1996. We do have a few in the our u15 group born late '96 who were involved with the u16s this past season. 2 centre-mids in Mo Adams (box-to-box) and Chris Spencer (Defensive) and strikers Kash Walton and Tyler Walker (son of former Nottingham Forest legend and England international Des Walker). But I would know if they were called up by now. So don't think there will be Forest representation here.
Squad so far - 9 of 18 Chris Regis - Arsenal Elliott Wright - Arsenal Nathaniel Oseni - Man City Izzy Brown - WBA Jordan Rossiter -Liverpool Brendan Galloway - MK Dons Dele Alli - MK Dons Nathan Oduwa - Spurs Harry Winks - Spurs
He is '97 born but like Mason Bennett and Ashley Smith-Brown last season, you can still play in the Nordics and then later in the Victory Shield.
Dominic McHale - Manchester City Callum Burton - Shrewsbury Thats now 11 of 18 Standby players : Reece Brown - Birmingham Demerai Gray - Birmingham Jordan Brown - Arsenal
This definitely seems the case, mate. So far only 2 of 11 we have got have been capped and its only once. Considering all the new names, it seems strange that none (bar Elliott Wright & Nathan Oduwa) of the players who were in the 40-man u16 training camp and weren't capped for the 16s last year have been picked. Or even some of the players who got only 1 or 2 caps. Players like Connor Ogilvie, Kody Lyons-Foster, Niall Heaton, Ben O'Hanlon, Joe Riley, Dev Redmond, Priestley Griffiths, Callum Pilkington, Josh Cullen, Byron Lawrence, Emmanuel Sonupe, Will Marsh, Alex Kiwomya, Danny O'Brien Obviously some of the last 7 places could go to these players mind but it still seems a touch strange.
