Houghton even played in 9 and 10 ? Serious ?
I think Karen Carney is one of those forwards who can easily play as an offensive midfielder. Much better than Fara Williams, for instance... :whistling:

Yeah I have seen her play 9 or 10 with Leeds a few times. Jennifer Beattie has the same ability, she has actually played 1 to 11, there were pictures of her playing in goal for her University team as the main keeper was not available on the day.

Well, Jennifer Beattie is good as a defender in 1 vs 1, or even as a striker à la Wambach thanks to her head-playing, but she is so slow that I can't imagine her playing as a winger...
By the way, she was injured last night in the game with Scotland against Chile (a fantastic game !!) and had to go out, but I don't think it was very serious (she seemed breathless more than anything) and I suppose she will be fit for the 3rd place game on sunday against Canada.

well, she'll never be elodie thomis, but i think her speed (and wind) probably depend on her weight, which fluctuates much more than someone playing at her level should let happen.

Yeah Jenny is not quick but played many games in her earlier years coming on as a sub for Gemma Davison, funnily enough one of those games, she is credited with a hat trick after coming on as a sub and playing on the wing. It is even on her wikipedia page although she only scored 2 but BBC report gave her a hat trick lol originally she came to arsenal to play at left back.

So the new England squad looks really good compared to what Hopeless used to do. There are 30 players selected so he wants to see all the players. He also said that Smith, Stoney, Yankey and Chapman could all be selected for the Cyprus Cup if fit.

One change for the England squad as Izzy Christiansen replaces Jodie Taylor.

Christiansen was originally selected with the U23 squad, they are at La Manga at the same time as the Senior squad. The U23 squad is :

    Goalkeepers
Lizzie Durack (Harvard University), Mary Earps (Birmingham City), Megan Walsh (Aston Villa).

    Defenders
Jade Bailey (Arsenal), Hannah Blundell (Chelsea), Naomi Cole (Lewes), Martha Harris (Liverpool), Aoife Mannion (Birmingham City), Jasmine Matthews (Bristol Academy), Meaghan Sargeant (Notts County).

    Midfielders
Bianca Bragg (Arsenal), Millie Bright (Doncaster Rovers Belles), Laura Coombs (Chelsea), Felicity Gibbons (Charlton Athletic), Sherry McCue (Aston Villa), Abbey-Leigh Stringer (Aston Villa), Danielle Turner (Everton).

    Forwards
Freda Aiysi (Arsenal), Rebecca Bass (Sunderland), Isobel Christiansen (Birmingham City), Beth England (Doncaster Rovers Belles), Rebecca Jane (Reading), Fran Kirby (Reading), Melissa Lawley (Birmingham City), Kirsty Linnett (Birmingham City), Beth Mead (Sunderland), Nikita Parris (Everton), Jess Sigsworth (Doncaster Rovers Belles).

You are right, he did not select Jess Clarke, I dont think he rates her at all. One of Powell protegee who might fall on the side.

I think it's probably personal issues ...as usual in England ...because many girls that he call (btw he selected almost everybody he could...lol) are definitely not good as Jess is , but as I say there is a lot of personal preferences in England women football....I just hope Sampson will not get blinded with that as his predecessor was...

The only real wingers in the squad are Carney, Davison and Stokes.
Stokes probably not as good as Clarke but the other 2 are definitely a lot better.

And yes he has taken like 10 center forwards, most of them can play on the wing but not real wingers.

Davison is better than Clarke but not Carney , Karen is more talented for sure but she brings nothing as a winger anymore...see her performances during Euro....Attacking midfielder is definitely where she has to play . So basically only one true winger is better than Jess but still Sampson didn't call her....

Yeah, you must be sooooo glad that France has been spared personal issues getting in the way of player selection.

Full time 1-1 goal by Aluko.

Interesting choices in the starting 11 particularly at left back with Demi Stokes starting and Alex Greenwood on the bench. Greenwood was originally in the U23 squad.

Sampson also gave a game in the behind closed door friendly the day before against Ireland 1-0 to a lot of players.

    Here are the goals :

Look like England dominated the game , Norway was lucky .
The difference is in France we (at least who follows the team closely) know the reason of their exclusion and in some case (at least in my opinion) approve the decision ......However , in England nobody knows why a player is not called and worse even the player don't know why she has been blacklisted....ask Dowie and Flaherty....

ps: I didn't know Sampson was only 31:eek:...so young and coaching one of the most prestigious team in the world , bravo !
However , he has to stop to tweet with Hoogendijk...com'on Mark that's not professional...:D

Couldn't make out if Norway's more prolific scorer's , Hansen & the blond amazon, Hegerberg, were playing in this? Otherwise just based on highlights, thought it was a more even game since the video was made by the English, so more geared towards them
England needs to just once try and get Jody Taylor to play for them. She's now currently the 2nd leading scorer in the Aussie League and was leading the Swedish League last summer before hitching a ride to play down under.

and has global warming hit England or Norway pretty hard or was this game played in another country?(perhaps a bit more south? uh make that way more south!)

The game was played in La Manga (Spain ) , Hansen played (she is wearing the number 10 can't you see her ?) , Hegerberg didn't , I am not a Norway specialist but seeing some names that I know and other that I don't , I guess this was a kind of experimental team ...the staring goalie Cecile Fiskarstrand is just 17 years old . I am pretty sure the highlights aren't biased , we are not used to do it in Europe.... And last but not least , Jodie Taylor and England is a trouble story who could end up in love or hate ...only the future knows...

Although it has not been mentioned much, Mark Sampson has brought Lee Kendall as the goalkeeping coach. Glad they got rid of Keith Rees, maybe no more Dracula style goakeeping from Bardsley or Brown. 8 or 9 years of them dropping high balls.
