30 min in and a good game so far, with chances for both teams. Werder somehow wins a penalty (for what I have no idea) and Frings converts it for the 1-0.

Great game! Plenty of fun to watch.

No idea though how Bremen got that penalty. I first thought the ref might have seen a handball, but apparently he saw a foul... that wasn't there.

Too many fouls and offsides now by Bremen.

Valencia has been getting past our back line with ease (who can't, huh?) but then they've been blasting over the bar. Marin has been superb and Ozil has looked pretty good too.

Naldo sure sucks today... missed the ball in the air like 3 times now and it finally comes back to bite us. 1-1.

Hahaha,1:1, that is so typical for Bremen. Wouldn't be surprised if they lose 1:3 now. Or win 3:1.

Anyone knows what the red card was for?

What a game, fun to wtach, also with the background of 04. The referees are being plain bad though.
Ad Valencia is probably the hardest place to play atmosphere wise. In German we say the atmosphere is 'poisoned'

Did he kick Wiese in the face or something as he was going down? I'm not even sure that was Banega. Banega had been playing a pretty decent game.

The commentator on German TV is guessing that he might have said something rude to the linesman.

Our players look so tired and sloppy. This game was entertaining in the first half but now it's just messed up. Valencia are a man down and look ten times as threatening as we do.

Good result but not so good of a performance. We played better 11 vs 11. Valencia then managed to outplay us with only 10 players on the pitch. It's a good position for the return leg but we need to work for qualification. Valencia is a very good opponent. I can see why they are 3rd in La Liga.

That's what I can't understand! It often happens that teams are facing problems in numerical superiority ... but to be honest, I've never seen such a bad performance from a team with 11 against 10 (even though you had a few good scoring opportunities towards the end)!

Pretty entertaining match with many good chances on both sides (11 for the hosts, 7 for your guys) and surely no bad result. ;) Congrats!
Unfortunately, your defence looked pathetic again during many moments of the game (thankfully, Tim Wiese and their inability to score saved your ass)...

PS: 9 yellow cards and 1 red card ... wow, that's exactly the outcome of your last game in Valencia (when you won 2:0). You surely can't complain about the referee, though ... if all refs from UK have the same "quality", I'd be worried as a Brit. :))

    Yeah - what the hell?

I have to say Bremen looked awful once Ozil + Marin were off.

Great effort guys. Was hoping you'd pull it off and I nearly switched off the two times Werder needed to score twice to advance. But your team never gave in and provided everyone a thrilling match to watch. Defending sucked but the heart beats as strong as ever. Good job.

We were close. One more goal and this could have been one of the greatest moments of Werder's history. Another Wunder von Weser. I'm very very sad right now. It's hurts even more considering how they gave everything to qualify.

Unfortunately, your attack can't always score more than what your pathetic defence often concedes.

Scoring 4 goals at home against a team like Valencia and still being eliminated, sounds unbelievable!

very exciting game, valencia's 4th goal really took out a lot of our momentum. we really need to beat Augsburg now to assure at least EL next season.

I'm furious how bad your defense is. I'm not sure why you guys haven't fixed this problem for YEARS now...

I am proud our EL campaign. The team lost no single match and showed wonderfull matches. Very good representation of the city, the country and the league. So lets do not be sad, but keep our heads up.

100% Agree (except Twente beat us ;) )

after the exit, i'm not angry at all. The team showed class and showed that they can beat the 3rd best team in spain, while the BuLi season has been tough the last 2 years. There is a possibility of playing CL next year, but if not we should be back in the EL.

this team just suffers from bipolar disorder, I am so mad with the result.

The boys deserve an applause for their determination and attacking prowess, but results are ultimately what matter... we've been excellent in the EL, but all good performances are just wiped away with such an atrocious performance at the back (all four goals characteristic of trademark werder defense - offside trap, slack SLACK marking, counter-attack), thats what we'll get remembered for in Europe.

the right and left back situation is a joke, it's true. I was thinking What a stupid decision to let Dennis Diekmeier go without giving him a chance here... we had a solid right back for free and he slipped away... Now WoB is interested to pay millions to buy him...

Then there's Abdennour... glad that he's just on loan.
