A bit harsh on the Fletch, isn't it? While rossi makes a good point that he needs to stop talking if he's not performing equally well... you could also consider that he had a relatively poor spell at the back, being played out of position, and it might have had an adverse effect on his confidence. I guess he'll be back to his best within 1 or 2 games. If not, then I'll be genuinely worried as well.
I'm surprised not to see more posts in here the past few months. Fletcher is fast turning into one of Fergie's best big game players ever IMO. Yes, he may not be a world class player, or get the attention of say a Lampard or Gerrard - but when it comes to standing up and being counted in big games - very few can match him on this team. I don't think it's any coincidence that most of the big games we have lost in the past 3 years have been without Fletch. He seems to have this quality about him where he try'd to physically drag us over the line and almost will us to victory. He doesn't have the technical gifts of some, but hasn't seemed to let that stop him. And he has improved that technical side of his game ten fold in the past 3/4 years. He must be some kind of adrenalin junkie or something... In fact, in his honour, I would like to suggest an official thread title change. Big Game Balls - The Darren Fletcher Thread
I saw a stat at half time from sky comparing him with Mascherano. He had more intercepts, more passes completed and fewer passes misplaced. He has come a very long way (but in a very long time ) Seriously though, I thought he was great today, best player on the pitch by a distance.
Or this one too. Does a "debate" even exist anymore? Surely every poster on here would have him as an absolute given in any big game.
Steady on now. He's been very good so far, but he hasn't really been tested at a high level. Song, on the other hand, plays with Denilson almost every week, which is a test for any midfielder in the world.
*insert self-congatulary wank here* https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showpost.php?p=11215924&postcount=42 To be fair, I was half-kidding back then but there's no doubt about it now. He is a big-game player.
Well then there's Denilson, who along with Diaby were going to form perhaps the best CM pairing in the world by 2009 according to Arsenal fans, allowing Fabregas to roam around.
Well billy, I am still waiting for Lupoli, Quincy and Reyes to become the most feared attack in the world. @ umar; well-played mate. How the hell did you end up supporting those Franco cnuts
I forgot about Lupoli! He was far better as a teenager(!!) than Rossi could ever hope to be. -------------Fabianski---------- ?????---Senderos--?????---????? -------Denilson----Diaby-------- Reyes--------------------Quincy --------Lupoli----Jeffers-------- Anybody able to fill out the Arsenal "World Class" XI of the 2000s? I thought of Djorou, but in fairness they didn't hype him -as- much. Yet we're the ones still getting shit over Djemba-Djemba and Kleberson.
I would rather put Vela (or even Aliadere) than Jeffers but then it would pretty much be a second-half of the decade team. The left-back surely has to be Clichy (or Traore for that matter). Already better than Cole as a teenager and twice the player Evra ever will be. Cannot think of another CB and there is a right back whose name escapes me atm edit : weren't Bentley and Pennant over-hyped by them at some point as well?
Aliadiere, good shout! Yeah, we'll throw in Clichy. Are you thinking of Justin Hoyte? I don't think they went overboard on him, but did reckon he would be a very good player - he is now in Championship midtable obscurity with Boro, iirc.
Yeah, Hoyte it was. I remembered it was someone who had his younger brother (Gavin) in the arsenal academy as well. And, claims were being made that he was a lot better than his brother. fyi; he is playing for Cambridge United these days.
lol @ the last few posts on here.... why would yall have an inferiority complex when it comes to the arsenal?? seems like you would goof on your rivals (leeds, liverpool, citeh, etc)
