Sporting fan here. I actually saw them play over a there a week before Gooch was loaned, and bought his jersey at the stadium . They are doing horrible and are the embarassment of Portugal. They fired their coach and have nothing positive going for them. The squad is a straight up mess.
When I say I'm a fan of Sporting, it's only to follow a team in Europe. I was sad to see Gooch leave though. Mengao on the other hand really makes me sad. Adriano is back to his old ways, but the dude has some major psychological problems. Most realistic fans knew he wouldn't make a full comeback. But thats the least of their troubles. The mangagment has been so inept that they literally owe money all over the place and are have even been missing paying their players. I lost count on how many lawsuits are pending for former players and teams they bought players off of. BUT, I'm happy they wont be relegated, haha.
Interested to see how he actually did, especially compared to Weligton, who starts regularly at centerback.
The way the match report read it sounded like Malaga played a 3-5-2. If so, I'm guessing Gooch was one of the man-markers not the sweeper. Can anyone confirm that?
I hope so. I really don't rate Demichelis, he was pretty bad at Bayern, and I think Gooch is at least on par with him but provides a better presence in the air.
I dont think he's going to start this weekend, but this is hopefully the launching pad that will continue to get him more minutes. He is still quality, so if he stays injury free, he will be hard to keep on the bench.
I dont see him starting this weekend unless an injury occurs to either centerback. If he's replacing anyone in the line-up it will be Weligton & that is still unlikely without injury. On another note, there were 3 goals conceded against a quite poor side, i'd like to see if any were on Gooch if someone can bring up some highlights.
Malaga lost to Rayo who is in 11th place atm at home 2-1 this past weekend. I didnt watch the match but perhaps Onyewu finds a place if this becomes a trend. It will at least become more justifiable for Onyewu to get more looks. On another note: Onyewu is not starting against Milan today. Thought he might.
With a decent chance of playing the last two CL matches (11/21 & 12/4), which are likely still to matter greatly to the opposing teams.
100% #XI Malaga CF: 13. Willy 2. J. Gamez 23. Onyewu 3. Welington 21. S. Sanchez 8. Toulalan 19. Portillo 18. Eli 7. Joaquin 22. Isco 9. Saviola Here's to a great performance from the big man!
