never met him, dont know, though i will say hes the kind of public personality who carries a reputation which colors many people's opinions. At the time of the Man City red card a couple of years ago I felt he should never wear a soccer jersey again for anyone. And, he continually says and does stupid things, like the press conference last year in Marsaille where he talked with a thick french accent as if English was his second language. Not a smart man per se. This year though hes no where near as reckless and antagonizing, and is letting his playing do a bigger percentage of the talking. For whatever its worth.
You wonder if ol 'Arry was able to get into Barton's head? I would love to see Gooch play for QPR, or anyone for that matter. Before the knee injury he would have been great in the Championship. Physical, great in the air, menacing.
I will say QPR has recently signed Charlie Austin, who is also coming off a bad knee injury, bad enough that he failed a physical and had a transfer to ...Forest? Boro? cant remember, nulled, just before being signed by QPR. QPR presumably saw the same knee issue in their physical yet still signed Austin because they needed him. Clutching at straws maybe but QPR do desperately need centerback depth.
It was Hull City of the EPL. Apparently QPR agreed a fee of 4million Sterling and they look like they're getting value for money with Austin scoring 6 goals in 13 appearances across all competitions.
His playing career sure has been up and down, but credit the man for putting together a fantastic 10-yr all-expense paid European holiday.
Seriously, the guy has been able to get paid, and not play soccer for YEARS. I've got to get a gig like that. I know in his heart he desperately wants to be paid to play, and I feel for him. There must be something freakish about the guys that survive in professional sports for many years, to be able to avoid major injuries. Look at Gooch, just absolutely scythed down in his prime by a freak non contact injury.
The best part is with his lack of playing and the injuries, one would think if he wanted to stay in Europe, he'd be knocking around a third division team in northeast England or the midlands or some Slovenian or Romanian premier league barely getting paid his living expenses. But no, he is looking at landing on his feed in London. That after already setting up shop in Malaga, Lisbon, Milan, etc. He lands on his feet in the quality of life side of things in this European adventure.
I would not bet on him getting much playing time next season if he signs for QPR and QPR gets promoted to the BPL.
I'd be sure to wear sunglasses preferably wrap-around ones so he can't squeeze a lit stogy in between my face and glasses. We'd avoid Christmas parties. too.-- though I don't think he'd be invited to any.
Who Gonzo or Barton?? It would be quite funny for both. Gonzo speaks in 3rd person and well..........Barton's just a f-ing nut job.
He actually prefers Guchi. He doesn't know where Gooch came from, but it's stuck. It's sorta like I tried to tell my German host family my nickname was "D", but they...and all my other German friends understood "Dean", so everyone called me (to this day, even) "Dean". I gave up trying to win that fight.
