Mesut Özil, after returning from starting the game in the Camp Nou and putting on a great display during Spain's famous 'Clásico', didn't want to brag about the exhibition he had put on against Barça on his arrival at the German camp: "I've got nothing to prove to anyone. I don't play football to try and show-off – I play because I love the game".
However, the German international did want to speak with Germany's 'Bild' newspaper to defend himself from criticism he's received over recent weeks, especially the comments about the Real Madrid midfielder having a wild nightlife: "Everything that was said about me is untrue, but I'm used to that. The stories the Spanish journalists wrote about me were exaggerated".
Özil denied that he wants to leave Madrid, despite the interest Manchester United has shown in signing him at some point: "When you play with Real Madrid, you can't think about anything else. I don't know anything about it and I have no reason to leave. I can't think of a single motive I could have for leaving this team".
On the subject of the imminent games his national side will play against the Republic of Ireland and Sweden, the Real Madrid player says that "Joachim Löw trusts in me. We want to take a big step towards the World Cup".
