I hope they continue to progress as players. this is a good stuff. do players that play on the mexican liga winner move on to europe ever?
As of 3 months ago, I thought Edgar Castillo was crap and Eric Lichaj was clearly superior. Yeah...about that.
The only thing I want stopped is that some people around here are saying Xolos should join MLS...Overall having more Mexican-Americans or Americans in general in Liga MX will benefit the league, more English speakers will spark interest in Liga MX cause they want to see their players and in turn more money for that league, Univison Deportes broadcast that game in English (SAP) for the first time ever this year and the ratings were huge for the Spanish version, MLS on the other hand got a 0.7 ,not sure if it was due to the scheduling of the game.
They've scheduled their league Final in different slots, and get a low rating every time. So it isn't the scheduling. And damn, I didn't know the English was on SAP. Rep to whoever can post video of the English broadcast..
JK as a player has won a World Cup, Euro Championship, Bundesliga and more. He also led Germany to 3rd place in the 06 WC.
I still think he needs to improve on his defensive skills much more, but as of now he may be the best natural lefty for the LB spot (back up for Johnson).
God Bless Castillo, Corona and the their entire team. Excellent job representing the US in Liga MX. There are US Jerseys waiting with their names on them come next camp
I feel for Castillo. Weren't there talks of him almost quitting the game at one point because of how crappy his reputation was? This is a great way for him to stick to his haters! I hope he gets more chances with the NT at LB, and if Donovan really is gone... we can play with Fabian moving up, and Castillo played at LB to test the waters. I agree. Mexico's league has never been my cup of tea, always preferred Argentine league or Brasil. But with the influx of American's it's getting me interested in Tijuana and where ever Paco Torres goes.
This is what I've always loved about Adu. Most USMNT players can exploit space, Adu was able to create space. We've never had that.
I used to dislike Castillo. I didn't understand why he was getting call ups but I've been delightfully proven wrong. I hope he continues to grow and earn more call ups. It'd be nice to have depth at LB and even the possibility of Johnson moving to a LM.
Castillo can run all day (which is of utmost importance at his position) but I don't see much else. I'm happy he's in the fold but my expectations aren't very high.
Congrats to Edgar. From Mexico National team reject to US Nat LB. That's a huge accomplishment and speaks volumes about his character and work ethic.
Well................I think Castillo has a use for us if we understand that his defensive skills aren't his strength. Our problem right now is that our centerback issues mean we can't count on them to cover for a left back that's a defensive liability. If everybody's fit and healthy, I don't see a spot for Castillo in our starting XI right now. But he's certainly in the squad, and is a good option for us at both the LB and LM positions. It wasn't that long ago that we were starting Jonathan Bornstein at left back in important matches...................and Castillo is certainly superior to that level.
Bornstein was starting not because he was that good, he was starting because BB felt he was. I remember BB giving Castillo a measly 20 minutes of a tryout at a LM position, that was it, thank you, we will call you if we need you. Funny how things workout sometimes.
Castillo? Best pure defender at left back for the US. Tidier and less mistake prone than Johnson or Chandler. More of a natural there and more quicks than Parkhurst. Should be used at lb on road qualifiers and against Mexico. He didn't gain consistency in playing time and in his career at the position until this year. No point blaming Bob for heretofore lack of time with the US.
Another BS specialty. Take a player now, and make believe he was that player two to four years ago, and blame someone for not seeing it. This guy looked like he was gonna fall by the way side with all his moves and mental issues, but he has found a home and stability. Looks very confident. Really didn't expect much from him. Hope he continues to improve and congrats to him and the rest of the Yanks down there.
Didn't quite show at the higher level when paklying for the NT... he looked nervous and lacked the 'tidy' ness. But I am sure he's earned another look after his aamazing perfomance with TJ as of late.
