Is Valdez the guy who's playing at San Lorenzo? If so, it might be that they are just letting him stay at San Lorenzo so he can adapt to his club because its a hectic schedule in argentina this season because they have to fit the whole tournament in before the world cup.

In fact, there are midweek games next week so we won't have Balanta or Teo for our game against Tigre.

And also to the guy who said Balanta is playing like shit, all you need to do is look at how we did against Colon with Funes Mori playing instead. Now THAT is playing like shit. I'd go as far as to say Tigre has 50% more chance of beating us with the muerto Funes Mori playing instead of Eder

I'm pretty sure the guy who said balanta is shit because he has not watched a complete match of river with balanta.. and his opinions are based on those who talk crap on him in other forums.lol

Mmmmmm, I don't know. Probably not. He's doing great in River and a lot of us would love to have a defender like him in the NT, but I still don't know if he would get a call-up. Mussachio is one of the best defenders in Europe and is being closely followed by Barca, yet he hasn't been called up once by Sabella. Same goes for Gonzalo Rodriguez, who has been excellent in the Italian league for a while now playing for Fiorentina.

Sabella seems to have a set of players chosen from a while back, without taking into consideration players' current form, so it's hard for players that haven't been part of the long term process to make it into the team -- even if they are doing much better than those in the squad.

Just not enough spots on the roster for him assuming Zuniga will be healthy.

Zuniga will be healthy as he is 'training' in SOME Form. His own ACL is naturally taking longer but the best part is that he still has 2 months and is ahead of Falcao recovery-wise.

But Balanta is not in the same situation as Arias where we held no options and needed to use him.

Yepes is retiring and so is Perea (obviously after the world cup from the national team) and I see Balanta only making it to the world cup if used as a DM (I mean, that's the major weakness we have with no solid connection between our defense and midfielders).

Well if somehow Zuniga really couldn't make it to the world cup, who would be behind Arias?

I think the spot itself could come down to Balanta or Medina.
Tactically Pekerman may experiment with Valencia as he did against Brazil or even Cuadrado back there as he did against Bolivia if I remember correctly.

I don't even want to think about Zuniga being out. I hope he pulls through and comes back better than ever.

I mean once the world cup most this team is done I think. Mondragon, Mosquera(if he gets called), Perea, Yepes, maybe Aldo, Elkin etc. Our Copa America 2015 team will be very different then this one and our 2015 Copa America in the US will be much different.

Balanta won't go to the WC because he isn't ready and he really isn't good enough yet. I think Franco, Murillo and Medina are all better CBs then him they just don't play for River plate. If it was him or Perea def pick him but him over any of those 3 or Carlos Valdez. I just don't see anything too special in this kid.

Balanta wasn't that special when he was subbed in our last friendly so it's understandable.

On the contrary I've been watching him play, and he's been excellenct. I think he's better than Zapata, he reminds me of a young yepes but even faster the him at his prime. Added he has excellent ball control for a 6'2 guy
