He's not a bad coach, but the winning spirit and fire has faded. 3 points given to a team that could go far with this win. Had they fallen on Argentina or Brazil, I'd feel a bit better about it, but Ecuador cannot give points away to Peru, Venezuela, Colombia nor Chile. We are normaly competing with them for the last spot and a half (sencond place in 2002 WCQ was a one time only thing, guys). Incredible goal by Venezuela. Bad luck by our offence. I wonder how things would have gone with Caicedo. Why wasn't he called up???

Vi el partido y diganme, que culpa tiene el pobre man (aparte de haber aceptado dirigir a Ecuador), si sus delanteros botan tres goles hechos en los primeros 10 minutos? Si uno solo de esos entra hoy estarian diciendo que Ecuador es una potencia suramericana. No es culpa de Suarez el problema es que por simple recambio no tienen un jugador que le llegue a los tobillos al Tin, que los clasifico dos veces a punta de goles, que tal los que se comio Benitez en el segundo tiempo? Y Tenorio nunca ha sido gran cosa, ademas la liga donde juega no le ayuda mucho.

We need to just forget this game and put it behind us. its done, and we lost a very winnable game.... Let's hope... no pray ! that the team does an acceptable job against Brazil... even though they are going to whoop us at our present state.

He has to also motivate the team, designate the leader, implement the match tactics, read the opposing team's play, measure strengths and weaknesses of his own and the opposing team's players, etc., etc., etc. If you look at the way Ecuador has been performing recently, they simply look uninspired, lack aggression, lack spirit and leadership on the field. Despite all the comments about the players missing opportunities, if you look at the match there really were not a lot of opportunities - the miss by Benitez, the miss by Tenorio and the free kick by Mendez were really the three clear chances of the match. Mostly the game was a lot of passing the ball around and then longballs into the box which were easily neutralized. Ecuador had no creativity, no daring, worst of all no desire. I frankly think the team has still not recovered from the 3-2 loss to Chile in the Copa America. The first 75 minutes of that match was the best Ecuador I have seen in years, better than the World Cup team. The way the team lost was really demoralizing, not only to the players but certainly to the coach and staff. The next matches Ecuador played you saw a very careful and scared team, playing not to win but to avoid losing. They lost the aggression and the nerve, and that is the same team that played last night. That's why the best thing right now is to get a new coach to forget the past, bring some motivation and fresh tactical perspective, most of all to bring some needed leadership not only himself but also within the team.

WHat is happening to Ecuador is exactly what happened to Colombia once there players were playing over seas they just don't husstle they do not play hard. I saw Mendez give up on some balls played his way Ecuador always played w/ a sense of eregency with a sense of Pride now b/c they play over seas they think no one can take there starting spot. No more Felix Borja he sucks and I don't understand why they don't bring in Caicedo or Salas who really want to play for the team.
