Osieck is now livid with Chinese Super League club Changchun Yatai standing in the way of McKay despite the tournament running during a two-week mid-summer domestic break.
But to McKay’s frustration and Osieck's growing annoyance, Changchun – which is locked in a battle to avoid relegation as it languishes in 14th spot three points off the drop zone – has neglected to respond to official selection notices from Football Federation Australia.
It has closed down all channels of communication in the hope that FFA will give up the chase for McKay, who played in all three of the recent World Cup qualifiers against Japan, Jordan and Iraq.
Since the tournament falls outside official FIFA calendar windows, the club is not compelled to release players and faces no sanction if it prevents McKay from joining his teammates in Korea Republic.
While FFA remains bullish, it appears unlikely the club will yield as it continues to stonewall all approaches seeking the release of one of Osieck’s key men and it is understood it has also placed pressure on McKay not to go.

Squad named:

Socceroos Head Coach Holger Osieck today named a provisional squad of 24-players for the upcoming EAFF East Asian Cup tournament against Japan, China PR and Korea Republic.
The squad is comprised of 19 players from the Hyundai A-League and 5 from Asian-based clubs.
Mark Birighitti, Josh Brillante, Mitch Duke, Craig Goodwin, Tomi Juric, Connor Pain, Erik Paartalu and Trent Sainsbury will all have may have the opportunity to make their senior international debuts for the Socceroos at the tournament.
Veteran striker Archie Thompson has the chance to equal Damian Mori’s Socceroos goal scoring record.
The Socceroos will arrive in Seoul on Wednesday evening and will play their first match of the EAFF East Asian Cup against the host nation, the Korea Republic, on Saturday 20 July (kick-off 7:00pm local, 8:00pm AEST). Their second match of the tournament will be against Japan on Thursday 25 July (kick-off 8:00pm local, 9:00pm AEST ) and the final match will be against China PR on Sunday 28 July (kick-off 5:15pm local, 6:15pm AEST).

What is Holger trying to achieve with that style of football?
Is Holger just playing for results in this stupid tournament?
Is Holger going to do this against Japan?
Why take off Milligan at HT but give Zadkovich 90 minutes?
Why Paartalu and not Mooy?
Mitch Duke?????

Anyhow, I think McGowan was very good.

What Holger saw:

Osieck claimed the uneven nature of the match was a result of South Korea's superior physical condition and he praised his team for coming away with a point despite spending so much time pinned in their own half.
"Korea played as I expected, a young, ambitious team, they had great pace, good technique and they definitely put us under pressure," he said.
"But we must consider that their team is in the middle of the season and their fitness was outstanding, whereas our boys have not played competitively for a couple of months.
"So I knew I would be very difficult for us, as our fitness wasn't as good as it is normally. But I want to give full credit for the boys for character, effort and fighting spirit."
"In these circumstances you just need to be realistic, you can't expect a great performance from players who haven't played in months," he said.
"I have been with these boys for two and a half weeks, some of them were in the World Cup qualification camp, I know some of them very well as players and the others I am very close to them on daily basis and I know already who is in the position to play and who needs more time."

A better performance against Japan but off-season general/match fitness still proving to be an issue. I'm not liking the current use of Vidosic, Duke and Archie...nothing happening there. It might be worth giving Nichols and definitely Pain a good run against China.

Overall, Holger still doesn't impress me. Our teams can't create anything against a reasonably competent defence.

Decent tournament and an interesting match against China who look like they came to win the tournament, judging by their selections.

Mooy and obviously McGowan have certainly showed they should always be close to the first team.. they're under the age of 30 though so who knows. Nichols/Juric also impressed while Duke/Goodwin were decent. I have to say Cornthwaite and Paartalu were poor and I'm amazed Sainsbury never got a run at all.

Considering the fitness of almost every individual there have been a number of real positives to take out of this.

It was worthwhile to expose a younger generation to international football, even though the results didn't show it. We were in every game bar the first, and that was the one we got the point in!
