I was wondering if anyone knows the history behind the term "cap". I was also wondering what a Nat team player gets to signify that they have played minutes for their country. Do they actually get some sort of hat or cap to honor their contribution as a player? If you know, plz pass it on.
I think that there's something on the Scottish Football Museum's website about how in the 1800's players would have different color shirts and socks and the thing that distinguished one team from another would be a cap that they would wear on their head. I don't know how many countries still give their players physical caps in honor of playing. The soccer history sub-forum should have more on caps.
