From my POV it rained pretty good in Clear Lake for most of the day. When I left at 4pm to drive into town it rained heavily for most of my drive. For me I just grabbed my poncho before heading out the door and was prepared to get wet, but for a person bringing kids I can very easily see where it would have been easier to stay home. Luckily there was no rain after arriving at the stadium area by 4:30pm.
It takes about a whole growing season for bermuda to really root in; so it likely will come up easy for the rest of the season. They have done a pretty good job this far though.
Livestrong's seating capacity is under 19,000, and I have the sneaking suspicion that deck was built so they could pull SRO crowds and not have to deal with the fire marshal. If Houston had the exact same park while averaging a shard over 20,000 a game, it'd look packed too.
I didnt go to the game. No real reason. I bought a six pack for the price of one beer and got drunk on my couch and got to watch the texans too. I think it just caught up to me so many games in such a short period. I think it is too be expected. Now lets just finish the season well and make a nice run in the playoffs. I would love to see BBVA on November playoff evening.
If you're referring to the TFC game in particular, you do know that it rained, a lot, all over the area before kick-off. Probably didn't help. It wasn't torrential, but it was raining off/on.
My only counter to that is if you had a cell phone you could check the radar and as of 5:00 there were little to no storms in the area. I think that dampens walk-ups but not existing ticket holders. I've just noticed so many no-shows around us that I wonder about renewals for those seats.
Toronto historically hasn't been a big draw. Some of our worst attended games at Robertson were against Toronto. (Yeah I know I need to do an attendance update)
I've been to KC and the bodies are real. Walked around the entire thing and IMO its the best stadium in MLS that I've seen so far. You can really tell that a $100 more million was spent there compared to BBVA. Best thing is that supporters section. They have their own entrance and an exit directly into the stadium's sports bar. I recommend the trip to every Dynamo supporter.
I did that trip twice last season. I'm not saying the bodies aren't real, just that if you look at league attendance, building a stadium over 20k will not give you the "packed" feeling most nights. Just not going to happen. If BBVA had 3,000 fewer seats, no KC comparisons would be necessary. To be honest, I had a piss poor experience at LSP. Beautiful stadium by all accounts, but the staff and opposing fans* were not friendly at all. I'll spare BS my list of grievances, but aside from a nicer entryway and more glass, LSP doesn't really offer a lot to the average fan or the traveling supporter you don't get in other venues. Thus ends my rant about SKC/ LSP. As far as BBVA is concerned, has the availability of St. Arnold spread? Having to run over 4-6 sections to get a Lawnmower is getting old. * By no means is this a slight against their SGs. Although I didn't meet them myself, everyone I know who hung out the Cauldron guys pre/post-game said they were cool.
In Houston, there are no bodies in the seats that are sold but instead of marking it as "no-show" in the turnstile reports, the Dynamo FO marks each sold but empty seat as "Felix Garcia"
Yeah, we all faced that. Some of their fans are the worst of the worst. I had only ONE good experience from one of their fans and that was this: The SGs were walking back to that epic post-game tailgate. We were being escorted by a couple of police officers. As we walked there were people all around us telling us that, "the only good thing about a Mexican is the fact that they'll mow your lawn for $5", "we should call immigration on them so they can miss the final", and other such nice things. The funny thing is we were clearly responding in English and had people of other races around us. Well, after holding a couple of my fellow SG members back from kicking somebody's ass, we got to a mini-van. There was a family that had stayed after the game tailgating. The dad came up to us and offered us some drinks, shook our hands, and told his kids to do the same. He gave his kids a speech on good sportsmanship, ironic cause we weren't the definition of his speech in LA but I freaking enjoyed LA, and I don't give a damn who tells me some fans were wrong in that. If you lose a Cup Final you can either go out one of two ways, quietly or in a memorable way. We were memorable, but that's a whole other conversation, right? Them alongside Max, a Caucasian SG member, busting out a passport card while SKC fans around us asked us for our papers restored my hope in humanity. Get ready there T.J. because we will travel together for AT LEAST one playoff game this season, and you'll get the full SGs on the road treatment. It's an experience like no other.
I thought it was unintentionally amusing that some of the KC fans held up their driver's licenses while they chanted anti-immigrant crap at our fans. Did they believe that a driver's license is evidence of citizenship? Well, who knows, maybe it is in Kansas.
Totally spaced on that part of the narrative haha. I had a totally different impression. My beef was with jerks in Chiefs jerseys who tried to get tough with me for no reason. Then there was the staff at the gate. I was rushing in to catch kick-off, and they pulled me back when I was half-way to my seat to pat me down - something they did not do during the regular season. Then there was the dipstick bartender who did not know KABC rules (or maybe she just lied to me, I don't know). Norm Stewart was right: never spend a dime in Kansas.
that 'American Football' set-up looks really nice. i hope the attendees spend a lot of money in the stadium and the game attracts a lot of 1st time visitors. since its a high school game, i assume no beer sales. is that correct?
I'm going to guess based on the highlights and pictures that they had no more than 5-6,000 at the game. I had to laugh, I had Channel 2 on and Randy McIlvoy was live from BBVA Compass Stadium and the game must have just ended in the background when he was on and you could see the BBVA groundskeeper (the heavy guy) walking behnd him on the field inspecting it. It was hard to see how chewed up it got
You are crazy if you think people in Kansas City know that passport cards exist. It doesn't surprise me that they think Houston is in Mexico. A field looks so much better as a soccer field than a football field. I guess I'm not much of a fan of having a field look like a 100 yard ruler
Anyone attend the UH/Texas State game? I'm curious as to how the pitch looked after two straight nights of hell.
