With less than two weeks till the grand opening, I thought it would be a good time to go ahead and start a new thread with all the pertinent information. Q: Where will the stadium be located? The stadium address is, awesomely, 2200 Texas Ave. Q: What will the stadium look like? More pr0n can be found here on BBVA Compass Stadium. Q: When will the stadium open? A: The schedule for the stadium opening is this: Tuesday, May 1: Ribbon Cutting Thursday, May 3: Team Store Opening Saturday, May 5: Meet Team/Open Stadium Tour/Fire Sale (STH Only!) Thursday, May 10: US U-17 vs Dynamo Academy, Soft Opening (STH Only!) Saturday, May 12: Grand Opening, Dynamo vs DCU Q: Can I get tickets to the home opener? A: The home opener is SOLD OUT! However, there are ticket give-away opportunities. The Firkin Soccer Show, Glenn Davis might have some and there is a ticket exchange thread. Unlike the Robertson era, tickets will be hard to come by for most games. Buy early. Q: What's the deal with tailgating? A: Tailgating rules can be found here. Sadly, it won't be exactly like Robertson with tailgating everywhere. The gist is that tailgating will be allowed in parking lots controlled by sports teams (ie Dynamo, Rockets, Dynamo). There is also an Orange Avenue run by the team for fan tailgating. Q: What other events will BBVA Compass Stadium host? A: Newtex has kindly collected the data for all events at BBVA, which can be found here. The highlights so far are New Zealand vs El Salvador and US v Italy Rugby match. Q: What's the deal with all those homeless folks!?! And the train!?! A: Take all such talk to this thread. We don't want it cluttering up this thread. Feel free to post more pics, comments, reactions and what have you to the newest jewel in Houston's, and MLS', crown. Link to the old thread.
I had a tour last week and they told me the dimentions of the field would be 120 x 74 yards to open, but the team wanted to ruduce length to 115, making it 115 x 74. It would be about 6 yards wider than The ROB. It's hard to see that on the webcam, but I think we will be happy with the size.
Honestly, I think they're just going to throw down a bench for the guys to sit on. Maybe the supporters groups can give them one from the "terrace".

I can safely say of all my years on BigSoccer, this may be the best thread ever to grace this forum. "The Journey Home" ...its finally complete.
bullsht. that taco thread is boss. i passed by the stadium today and it was lit. i was very surprised that not much light leaked out. was that by design as to not disturb the growing # of surrounding home owners?
Yessir. Does anyone want Wade Barretts's cleats from the first championship season, I mean I could have my own fire sale with all the gear and jerseys I've accumulated since the team started. Whoever back in the day said "home is where the heart is" sure must have been a footy fan.
There is a notch in the sideline on the west side that is for the team benches. I believe it runs from the middle of section 105 to the middle of 107. You can see where it starts on the webcam down below the BBVA Compass ad board.
Mark my words, that dark shadow on the one goal end will be a problem for fans and GKs during day games.
I tend to agree with Newtex. Having played keeper for 14 years shadows were never really a concern . . . direct sun on the other hand . . . .
I think there are players on the field this morning..... Cool. Maybe I was wrong, I thought I saw somebody in a blue goalkeeper's jersey and a couple of guys in orange tops standing around on the field. It was like they were about to have a practice there. But I never saw any more and those left, so either I saw the end of something, or they were there for something else entirely (a photo shoot, maybe) or, and this is very possible since I was watching on my iPad and it wasn't to clear, they could have been workers out there...
can't say for association football-but in lax, shadows always caused me problems as a keeper. It was just harder to pick up the ball coming out of the stick if the shooter was in the sun.
Shadow doesn't bother players on the field it only bothers people in the stands (possibly) but it gets really bad on TV
I'm going with Mark Dodd or Scott Garlick, not looking it up. Edit: I recall Meatball Meola wearing one, maybe in a nats game
