Ask Tally and any of the other keepers and they would tell you it's not irrelevant.

One injury and there will be room at the inn.

Chase your dream Tally! You can't get there if you never put yourself in a position to succeed!

USA roster for the Mexico game on April 2:

    http://www.ussoccer.com/News/Mens-National-Team/2014/03/140326-MNT-Roster.aspx

GOALKEEPERS (3): Bill Hamid (D.C. United), Sean Johnson (Chicago Fire), Nick Rimando (Real Salt Lake)
DEFENDERS (8): DaMarcus Beasley (Puebla), Matt Besler (Sporting Kansas City), Brad Evans (Seattle Sounders FC), Omar Gonzalez (LA Galaxy), Clarence Goodson (San Jose Earthquakes), Michael Orozco (Puebla), Michael Parkhurst (Columbus Crew), DeAndre Yedlin (Seattle Sounders FC)
MIDFIELDERS (7): Kyle Beckerman (Real Salt Lake), Michael Bradley (Toronto FC), Brad Davis (Houston Dynamo), Landon Donovan (LA Galaxy), Maurice Edu (Philadelphia Union), Luis Gil (Real Salt Lake), Graham Zusi (Sporting Kansas City)
FORWARDS (4): Clint Dempsey (Seattle Sounders FC), Julian Green (Bayern Munich), Eddie Johnson (D.C. United), Chris Wondolowski (San Jose Earthquakes)

This is not a FIFA date so an almost all MLS team. The article does not say when the players have to report to Phoenix.

Klinsy does prefer having natural lefties on the U.S. left flank.
To make no mention of Brad's huge advantage as the U.S.'s best dead ball striker.
I would love to see our guy in that role of sub off the bench to provide deadly service from the left and then the set piece service of go for goal tenacity that Davis always displays.
He is a veteran, plays wise and still has the legs for international competition. I say Klinsman takes him to Brasil2014

He should be back in Houston in time for the game against FCD. If he plays the full 90 against Mexico he might not start.

Honestly, what point is there in predicting the 23 man roster right now? Davis will be a part of the 30 man roster. That is all anyone needs to know right now. If you want proof, look to the fact that Driver continues to play despite not playing particularly well. Kinnear is trying to let Driver play himself into better form before Davis leaves for the US camp.

When does Boniek start training with Honduras national team? Is it after the RSL or LA Galaxy match?

Davis making the roster comes down to whether or not Klinsmann wants to use the last 1-2 slots for specialist-type guys like Davis that he may need late in a game but who aren't probably 90 minute guys. To me, even factoring in injuries and cards, you rarely are going to get to the last few guys on the roster in a normal situation so I see no harm in holding the last few spots for "limited" players.

And I think given the group it is far more likely we are going to need some late game offense to advance rather than a ninth fullback.

Dynamo press release said on the 20th. So I think he will be here for both.

The Honduras release says players report to camp in Miami on May 12th. Dynamo say he will play against LA Galaxy. I'd tend to believe the Honduran release.

Whether Davis makes the World Cup or not is relatively irrelevant for the Dynamo. He will make the 30-player camp squad which takes him out for 3-4 matches (unless he is released early). Unless the US went to the World Cup Final, he only misses additional matches if he goes to Brazil.

Well let's try to answer that question.

    1) Houston doesn't have near the player pool to choose from that the USMNT does. Driver plays mainly because Dom has to play him. If our player pool was deeper and we didn't have the injuries we've experienced, then perhaps Driver would be coming in as a 60 min sub rather than starting based on his current form.

    2) It was interesting in that not one of the writers felt Davis would make the squad. It may have been less interesting had one or two had him on there and there might have been some debate about the merits of Davis being included. That he wasn't on one of those predicted rosters is telling and says that "there really isn't any debate" other than Klinsman taking him strictly to have him for set pieces. Yeah, I think he'd be a great addition but it seems that most neutrals and the press don't. That said, Klinsmann could still take him but I'd put the odds at less than 20%.

    3) It's close to the World Cup and rosters need to be set and announced shortly. Brazil just announced theirs. This is a common exercise done in the football media.

    1. No doubt, but Dom doesn't have to play Driver. If you are stuck with same two forwards, four man MF with Brad on left, Boniek on right, and combination of two from Carrasco, Clark, Crevalle, Lopez.
    OR
    2. Move Barnes to central midfield, start Cummings or Sherrod at forward.
    3. Ownby at the right, Boniek Central.
    4. Start Cochrane, Taylor to LB, Ashe to LM.

Lots of options that don't require Driver. Lots. Many of the other options (Carrasco, Ownby, Sherrod/Cummings) have shown just as much at the MLS level as Driver if not more.

    2. There is a huge difference between making the squad and making the 30 man roster. He will make the 30 man roster. 100% guarantee you that. The writers want to "write away" Davis from the national team because they think he is duplicate to Zusi and/or doesn't bring enough to the table and/or some even have personal favorites they want to see there instead. It's flavor of the week to say Green will make it with 100% certitude because they think he was promised a spot before he switched. No one knows, but if it was solely based on what I saw in the last friendly than I think Davis has more value this summer than Green. Green though may be able to play forward, so if you take him you can have some cover at midfield and forward whereas with Davis you only have midfield cover.

    3. Preliminary rosters are set shortly. They aren't final. Klinsmann will still call in 30 and every single player will have an opportunity to push someone off/on the final roster. Do I think Brad makes it? No. I think he is likely the very last "cut", but each of the "writers" have questionable players on their list. Eddie Johnson is playing like total dogcrap. Wondo offers little at the international level but is playing well and scoring goals. I think Klinsmann takes Altidore, Johannson, and Dempsey at forward leaving likely one of those two or Boyd for one or two spots depending on how Klinsmann wants to do things. He doesn't have to decide now though because all three of those guys will be brought in....along with Green, Davis, and some of the bubble midfield options....along with Parkhurst and some of the bubble defenders.

If it was up to the writers, Davis wouldn't have been called in much over the last two years. Klinsmann though seems to love him.

We get to see what Davis does week in and week out, and that helps us get behind him a bit better at the national team level than most other bands. He's a pretty technical player, and has some skills that Klinsmann needs. If he's in form, he makes the 30. In my honest opinion, and not just looking to orange tinted glasses, he's a much more viable option than Shea.

If I'm Klinsmann, I take both Davis and Wondo to Brazil as they offer something a little bit different. Neither one starts, but if it is a late game situation and we are chasing a goal, I'd want to have the option of putting on Wondo's nose for the goal and Davis' set piece capabilities.

agreed but I don't think Davis will make it. We need Wondo-I have some of the secondary forward selections the last few WCs-I don't want the speedster that hasn't proven himself-I want a born and bred poacher for that role coming off the bench.

Nailed it. Not that it was very difficult. I think Davis or Kinnear were told it was likely several weeks ago. Only explanation for Driver continuing to start.
