SONS WIN AGAIN! off the bottom and up into to 7th! http://espnfc.com/tables/_/league/sco.2/scottish-division-one?cc=5901 match report: http://espnfc.com/us/en/report/351456/report.html?soccernet=true&cc=5901
We play the Accies again today... http://www.scottishfootballleague.com/football/first/fixtures/3610932/ http://www.scottishfootballleague.com/football/first/fixtures/ FYI - espnsoccernet.com has no record of this.
Dumbarton lost 2 late goals to lose 2-1 to Hamilton on Tuesday. Dumbarton were almost there but they concede far too many goals. 4 points from 6 for Raith against the top 2 makes them all but safe. I don't think Cowdenbeath will catch anyone apart from Dumbarton now; they play each other on the second last day of the season and I suspect that Dumbarton will want to be sfae by then. The game between Cowdenbeath and Partick Thistle that was abandoned for fog in the second half at 2-1 to Cowdenbeath looks like the defining moment in the season at both ends of the table. Thistle winning the replayed match puts the title in their own hands, and takes avoiding the relegation play-off out of Cowdenbeath's.
Dunfermline have been docked 15 points for being in administration, which puts them into the play-off spot with 28 points (which is the least of their worries at the moment). I reckon Dumbarton will only need 2 more points at most to avoid the play-off spot.
it puts them into 9th when they deduct the points... i can't find a table that shows that yet though... http://www.scottishfootballleague.com/football/first/table/ http://espnfc.com/tables?league=sco.2&cc=5901 i'm going by this espn article: http://espnfc.com/news/story/_/id/1406070/dunfermline-hit-with-15-point-deduction?cc=5901 so another 10 points if they don't "secure a Company Voluntary Arrangement by the start of next season."
It has been coming for quite some time. I've heard they were spending more than their total income on wages alone during parts of the 00s. Their debt has accumulated from there. Being in the First Division for most recent seasons has meant that they have been unable to properly service their debts. There are plenty of other clubs in the SPL who would find themselves in the same situation if they were relegated.
That was a stroll yesterday, Airdrie offered almost no opposition. All that's needed is a point next Saturday at Cowdenbeath and Dumbarton are confirmed as safe from relegation.
Safety from relegation was secured today away to Cowdenbeath with a 2-3 win. Safe with a game to spare, a really fantastic turn around from our early season form and greatly encouraging. I look forward to seeing who Ian Murray signs to the club this summer as he builds his own squad. Hopefully we can retain the spine of the existing team.
Today's 0-0 draw at home to Partick Thistle brings this memorable season to a close. A fantastic crowd at the ground today (the match was all ticket for both home and away fans) and a great party atmosphere with non-stop singing, cheering, clapping and drums throughout from both the home and away support. I did not imagine last summer that we would stay up with room to spare, in fact I was sure we'd just go straight back down again and have a laugh doing it, so this season, though trying at times and not without its turbulence, has been remarkable and I've enjoyed it all the way. I'm now looking forward to taking a well earned break from football and spending my Saturday's throughout the summer doing something else. 'Mon the Sons!
I went to college with a dumbarton player, no idea if he still plays there though. also ian murray is a legend
his name was glen I think and I'm sure he's from Greenock but I might be wrong. Played with him in the college team, we went to largs college together
I missed the new thread.. Anyway, found this and thought it was pretty cool. I want to check out the castle. http://lostboyos.wordpress.com/2013/10/29/lost-in-dumbarton/
