It's the Challenge Cup, which is exclusive to teams from Scottish Football League Divisions 1, 2 & 3 (and which also had 2 teams from the Highland League this season for the first time ever). The Scottish Cup is totally different. As is the Scottish League Cup. If you're more familiar with English league football then consider the Scottish Cup as the FA Cup, the Scottish League Cup as the Carling Cup and the Challenge Cup as the Johnstone's Paint Trophy as they are the English equivalents.
Thank you, again, sir. That does help. Kinda awesome how the Dumbarton thread is the most active Scottish thread on BS.
Anyway, onto pleasant news; The new season starts properly this Saturday with a trip to New Broomfield (or to give it its proper name, the Shyberry Excelsior Stadium) to see the might Dumbarton FC take on Airdrie United. I'm taking the train rather than the supporters bus as there's a train direct from my neighbourhood to theirs (Airdrie's) and it's both cheaper than the supporters bus but also means I can have a few beers on the train in the way. Bring it on! 'Mon the Sons!
A very poor performance from a sorely unbalanced Dumbarton side resulted in a deserving 3-0 defeat away at Airdrie United today.

We are dreadful. A sorely unbalanced team and apparently no funds available to bring anyone else in. It's going to be a long, hard season.

Gutted that I missed that game. We had no supporters bus running due to a lack of interest as a result of our poor form and Brechin having a talented team. Hopefully this can be the game that gets us firing by giving the players a confidence boost. Interesting that Alan Adamson left club captain Paul Nugent on the bench for that game...
