great, another idiot looking to retard his development. i hope it's for the money because he's going to be seeing a lot of pine and it better be worth his while. i really am getting tired of this "mediocre American goes to Europe to chase his dreams and fails miserably" story. it's almost as bad as the "American fails in Europe and continues to court failure by hanging on at FC Nevergoingtoplay in the Danish 2nd Division."
Looking at the last couple years of Transfers from MLS to X Geoff Cameron to Stoke City Tim Ream to Bolton Wanderes** Marco Pappa to Heerenven Robbie Finley to Nottingham Forrest Edson Buddle to Ingolstadt Chris Rolfe to Aalborg Yura Movsisyan to Randers FC Clark to Frankfurt Stuart Holden to Bolton Wanderes Sacha Klejstan to Anderlecht Michael Parkhurt to Nordsjaelland Kenny Cooper to 1860 Munich Brad Guzan to Aston Villa Eddie Johnson to Fulham Jozy Altidore to Villareal Maurice Edu to Rangers I know I missed some. I tried to find the ones that were going to Europe to further their development. Bolded the ones that I think have "succeeded" however you define it and used ** as jury still out.
Damn those guys who go to the EPL just to be famous, play against some of the best in the world and make 10 times the money that could in the MLS. What is wrong with them?
Shea's not a bad player, is young, and has potential. The move makes sense to me--and he's headed to a side that could use him and not to a big name. And I'll bet he'll make more in one year there than 4 here. What is different here is that someone *wants* him *and* is willing to pay a transfer fee for him. If you pay a fee, it's much more likely you'll give the player a fair shot so you do not lose your investment.
http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/artic...g-kcs-kamara-loaned-out-epl-side-norwich-city Kamara to Norwich City until May. Canaries have an option to purchase. I laugh at the guy as much as anyone, but this is a big blow to SKC's attack. He was The Guy for them for a lot of last season. Bunbury and Sapong are going to have to step up their game.
http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/article/2013/01/30/toronto-fc-trade-fan-favorite-plata-real-salt-lake The costliest pick in Superdraft history and all TFC gets out of it is a second-round pick. How's that for return on your investment?
I think Ream to Bolton was a terrible lost, especially since Bolton was relegated from the Premier, and Tim hasn't been an everyday player. Playing every other game in the Championship will not get him back on the US roster.
But wasn't it a win-win for all involved? He got his big payday and coaches everywhere realized he was nothing but hype and took him off their radar.
On another thread earlier this week, I was wondering whether San Jose might have some interest in tRR if they weren't able to get Dawkins back. Now that he is officially off to Villa (until May/June at the least), maybe time to give Doyle a call?
It seems like either they, the Galaxy, or Sigi up in Seattle have to have some interest in him; they are all places you'd think he wouldn't mind going either.
Definitely for all three. Although Sigi did just bring Neagle back for cover on the left, so I still think SJ would be the most likely of the three. Out wide they only have backups like Salinas and Garza right now, Marvin Chavez was injured recently and now with Dawkins that's a big hole for them.
You're probably right; looking over their roster I have no idea what we'd ask for. Do you have any thoughts? Maybe we'd just try to get some allocation bucks?
That's what I'd ask for, squirrel it away for the summer. They got some extra $ for the CCL, and you'd have to think they'll be scrambling to fill that LW spot now. Robbie for say, $100k? Sure why not?
