Wait so in this Chivas/Seattle trade it's: To Seattle: 1. Shalrie Joseph (partial salary pick up Seattle uses DP slot) 2. Move up to third in returning US Nation team member Allocation ranking 3. 2014 natural second round SuperDraft pick 4. 2015 natural second round SuperDraft pick To Chivas: 1. Free up DP slot (paying part of Joseph's salary) 2. Move back to fifteenth in returning US Nation team member Allocation ranking The only question I have is how long is Joseph's contract? If this is the final year it's worth it for Seattle. If we have the cap space to deal with the rest of Joseph's cap hit I would take this. I wonder who will come back that Seattle will pick up now.
Wait, so Chivas had to give Seattle a pair of draft picks and a higher allocation spot while picking up part of his salary to take Joseph? Man that looks bad on paper.
Yeah it's one of those trades when I first read about it I thought, that seems pretty even. I originally thought the picks were going to Chivas. Then I learn what I thought was going one way is also going the other and suddenly the other team got trucked. I know Chivas doesn't want US national team players but that third spot might look pretty valuable depending on who comes back.

Yeah, that's really the point. In fact, in all the history of the "returning national hero allocation" system, there have been damned few guys who turned out to have been worth the fuss. As often as not we send Europe our promising young players and they send us back broken, ruined, useless shells.
The returning US player rule. One of the biggest shitstains in MLS history. The rule was created when MetroStars won a lottery for Jonny Walker and it was announced on the MLS site. Technically MetroStars were not allowed to enter that lottery and MLS was called on their crap so the league pulled the story and came up with the returning player rule. Odd that Walker qualified as he had never appeared with the USMNT.
FC Dallas CEO Quinn (their McCullers?) has resigned: http://www.fcdallas.com/news/2013/02/doug-quinn-steps-down-fc-dallas-president-and-ceo EDIT: Apparently he wants to "spend more time with his family" after being accused of strangling his wife http://soccerblog.dallasnews.com/20...allas-after-arrest-administrative-leave.html/
You do know that we had the best season of any team that didn't make the playoffs in MLS history right? Not that best-non-playoff-team-ever is something to aspire to, but, well, we were.
EDIT: Apparently he wants to "spend more time with his family" after being accused of strangling his wife http://soccerblog.dallasnews.com/20...allas-after-arrest-administrative-leave.html/[/quote] Needs more time to finish what started? Lord, I apologize for that right there.
Similar to Toja or Soumare going into the allocation process, the league received a fee for Ruiz when he left.
Not that I think anyone can explain the thinking here, but does anyone care to try to explain the MLS discovery process? Whats to stop teams from just "discovering" players that are already known to the world and holding them for ransom from another MLS team? Below being an example of that. I thought I heard before, each team can only file so many claims a year or something like that, but who knows. http://sports.terra.com/soccer/mls/...85ffe924d78fc310VgnVCM20000099cceb0aRCRD.html
