£28 million on a defender would be absolute madness at this point, even if Agger suffers an injury. The silly season begins early.

january moves that i'd support are for a DM and a forward that can pass and move with suarez, maxi and henderson... basically, i'd like another suarez -- not a team full -- just two...

we also need to find a maxi, just 8 years younger...

i'd also like a healthy gerrard... that would be nice...

but moves for big names like hazard, shaqiri, higuain, cavani (the names that lazy journalists will throw around) aren't going to happen without champions league, i'm afraid... i could have seen a move for shaqiri before the CL debacle for united, but he'll be too hot of a property, now...

i think we're sorted at the back, for now... maybe a backup for enrique, but our CBs are fine... and goalkeeper, obviously, is sorted...

Of those rumours the only one I like is Shaqiri...I think he can be better than Gareth Bale as he's just as fast, as good of a crosser, and has more raw skill and is stronger than Bale. The difference currently is Bale's football sense and decision making, but we can teach that. Sign me up for a 20 million pound bid.

We all must ask as well:

Why not Liverpool go for Nasri?

Pretty much nailed on. I cannot see all those moves happening, to be honest.

I do wish the other new guys Andy Carroll and Downing would step up their performances as Adam and Henderson have done. They have been far too one-dimensional which may be an asset at a club content simply to be in the Premier League but we’re not that.

I think a lot depends on the health of Gerrard.

If he's unhealthy, and probably out for a while longer, I think they're willing to buy in the top level (or at least lay the groundwork).

I would like MVila or Moussa Sissoko. Failing that, a loan for a holding midfield type.

I would also like some type of attacking option. I would prefer to overpay now, get someone good, then get a stop gap now.

I have faith that Carroll will eventually come good(especially over the winter block of games) but we should never of paid £35million for him. Andy, Aquilani and possibly Downing have all had problems justifying their fee's maybe overpaying is not the right way to go.

Mouusa wants to go to Arsenal and I'd love M'Vila but he has just signed an extension and became captain so is unlikely to move this winter window. However easier deals for French footballers could be Gignac who can easily be loaned, although he'd most likely be keeping the bench warm for us, or Gourcuff with Lyon needing to lower their wage bill.

We have a solid squad but are obviously lacking in goal scoring. The defense has been very solid. Losing Mereiles on the last day of Aug has probably been more painful than most would have imagined since Gerrard has been unavailable for most of the season.

I would say that a striker (poacher preferred), DM and a RW (wide forward is ok) would be a huge help in scoring more and help with the Lucas injury.

I think top 4 is still very realistic but the above positions were brought in, we would really solidify and I think we would start killing teams off and turn those draws into wins.

I think we can be on about 35 points after 19 games and 45 from the next 19 could put us on about 80 points and maybe 3rd in the league. But if we do not strengthen we are trending for about 68-72 points. This year, it might not be enough for 4th. So tight in the top 7 ATM

We are LIVERPOOL FC!!!!...CL or not,We are a Top top Club and if we think we cant land Xherdan focking Shaqiri if we want him then there's something really wrong with the PR people at our Club..Shaqiri is a special player, but he's not Messi,Ronaldo,Neymar or Ribery for Godsake!!..If we want him and we can convince him of the Project at Liverpool FC he should Sign..there's no doubt about it..But knowing our Manager he'll go English and sign Matt Jarvis from Wolves:p...

I don't think we're getting Higuain or Cavani regardless of CL, Hazard would be a stretch, but I don't think we need CL for Shaqiri. Suarez was a bigger name when we bought him than Shaqiri is now, he was a hot commodity after the WC, and we couldn't offer CL football. So I could definitely see Shaqiri coming here.

it's late... i'm tired... i can't be held responsible for what i write below:

of course, last time this happened, i posted about the crazy possibility of mascherano coming back on a loan to cover for lucas and no one said anything about it... and rightly so, perhaps...

but, let's talk seriously for a moment: would you have torres back? we've seen this type of thing happen all the time -- players move back to selling clubs after a bad transfer... we've had two major ones: keane returning to spurs after six months and rush coming back after a less-than-successful spell at juve.... so, i think it is something to seriously consider -- i mean, i wouldn't put money on it, but i wouldn't be surprised as it's not unprecedented...

i mean, think about it, we need a more mobile 9, he's had proven success here...

BUT, i'm not necessarily asking if you want him back, more so your thoughts if you read a headline in januray "torres to make shock return to liverpool"...

    anybody?

It would all depends on the finances involved in the move.

I'd take him. I like being bitter about him and watching him fail at Chelsea but Torres will always have a spot in the heart of any Liverpool fan. He's pretty much like an ex-girlfriend who you hate for leaving and will never truly get over, and given the chance you would probably give in and take her (him, in the Torres case :p) back in an instant.
