Klinsy brought Landon to Bayern so I'd think that Donovan has good feelings towards Jurgen. On the other hand, Donovan said he wanted to stay at Bayern but they (Klinsy included) decided he wasn't worth a 10million transfer.....so does LD dislike JK?

I doubt it, Landon's Played a couple games under Klinsmann already, I don't see why Landon Would decide o rebel now if this was the case

It wasn't because he wasn't worth the 10 million, Bayern gave him a loan to join the club to prove if he was worth something, but during the 5 game spells he had, he did not show anything offensively. Klinsmann doesn't hate Donovan, it's just that the Bayern days didn't pan out well for him unfortunately.

Bayern didn't work out much better for Klinsmann. They took some lumps together there. If anything, probably a reason for them to be more together.

JK probably wanted LD to stay at Bayern.

JK already in the fast lane to being fired at that point. Bayern uppers did their best to discredit an average American soccer player as proof that JK didn't know a damn thing.

If LD was given a different trial at a different point, he might not have gotten a contract, but the comedy act that they did to make fun of LD would not have occurred.

That said, I am not sure what the relationship between these two is now, and if it has been tarnished, I'm not sure by who.

    LOL.

Maybe, just maybe...LD is telling the truth with regards to how he feels for the game now.

I know that is a hard concept for some to deal with or accept, but try it...it can be very liberating mentally.

Oh, but a Macanudo is a horse of a different tobacco.:)

LD showed up at Soccer Night in Newtown on Tuesday...he's obviously in contact with the world and not abstaining from being a concerned human being.

I hear JK, at the same time, was busy making sure the ball bearings on the treadmills in camp cupcake were well greased.

oooh, Macanudo's. I remember them back during stag parties and weddings. Good stuff.

And he was cleanly shaved. Clearly he hasn't been hiding in a cave in the Himalayas seeking the meaning of life.

Treadmills are so old fashioned. After the VO2 test, they are useless.

I'm surprised they still have the players run on these at increasing speeds up to 10mph, and beyond, until they can't go any more...one false step and you're facked. Running at full sprint on a treadmill is a disaster waiting to happen.

I am half kidding. Treadmills are fine. But yeah, when I start pushing 11-12 mph (well, did. I dislocated my ankle playing soccer last week, so I won't be on a treadmill anytime soon) for a minute it gets a little hairy. The VO2 is usually done with a steep incline to push the heart rate to its max, so speed may not get into that 15 mph for these guys.

Good point if you mean Klinsy. I think Landon has dogs. :)

I agree that my thesis is far-fetched, but they have a history, which may be strained now. Klinsy has urged all the USMNT to go to europe or to a higher profile team in order to better themselves. This public rejection of LD's path, may have rubbed LD the wrong way.

Or LD just wants some time off to think and rest. Which is what I think it is. Everyone is trying to read into this way too far. He has played soccer for a long time and may just need some time to think about his life and career. LD loves the USMNT, and I don't think any coach could push him away. If he shows up he plays, and the fans love him. That is that.

You may well be right, but I'm not sure. Something seems fishy.

Am I the only one who remembers JK publicly saying Landon had no balls?

Not those exact words, of course, but iirc he's done more than publicly reject Landon's path; he's called out Landon himself, basically saying some players have that innate drive to push themselves to the very top, and the killer instinct of a predator, while some (*cough*- Landon Donovan - *cough*) don't.

It was before he took over for Bob. Probably in b/w Bayern and Landon's first Everton stint. Not sure exactly when.

I remember thinking about it when JK first took over and he and Landon had that little disagreement about 12 month training, nagging injuries, needing recovery time and what not (when The Bruce took up for Landon). And, of course, whenever JK talks up Clint's career path.

Hell, maybe my recollection is completely wrong, or greatly exaggerated. The fact nobody else is bringing this up makes me think that might be the case...

I don't remember Klinsy insulting Donovan publicly, but I don't remember him praising LD either.

LD had 4 goals in 5 games all of which were sub appearances (I think).

4 goals in 5 games? Where did you hear of this information?
He hasn't scored a single goal during his time at Bayern.

Donovan scored 4 goals in friendlies for Bayern. When the matches counted, he didn't score any.

Then again, he didn't start any.

I think Klinsmann said something about Donovan needing to work on developing a killer instinct sometime after the 2002 World Cup, specifically in reference to Oliver Kahn coming up big with a couple saves against him.

Although I didn't take it as a shot at Donovan or his career choices.
